I run a gear diff in my T4.
I tried it first at a large dusty outdoor track with an 8.5 motor. I attempted tuning the diff with 30 wt shock oil, 5000 wt diff oil, 10,000 wt diff oil and ended up at 30,000 wt diff oil (as recommended by Xtreme RC Car test with the HIP Blitz) but it was always loose, especially on exit of low speed turns. The gear diff was a disaster with a mod motor and low traction. My T4 performed a lot like my old HPI Rush did!
I'm not one to give up so I also tried the gear diff at a high traction clay indoor track with a 13.5 and I was surprised to find that it actually performed very well. My truck turned in much better with the gear diff and traction on corner exit was not a problem. So, I'm going to leave it in for as long as I can this winter mostly for convenience. But somewhere in the back of my mind I know the ball diff would be slightly quicker.
Based upon my experience, I would advise to leave the gear diff in if you're running stock short course (you have to anyhow) or even 17.5 or 13.5 short course, but, I would not want to run a gear diff with a mod motor in a 2wd vehicle.

Thank You . on your response.. it would be the ideal gadget if it would work consistently trial and Error . Di you let know one else drive your truck and get there Opinions.? Just trying to see if it would be worth spending a day at the track Testing. The local Track Owner just Built a Brand New Factory Team B4.1 kit and put a Gear Diff in Using 5000wt Diff Lube With a Tekin Rs Pro And a 7.5 And it looked pretty Good . I'll see if I can Drive it to see how it performs ..

Based upon my experience ball diffs perform better and more consistantly than gear diffs. I dont doubt a gear diff can perform as well as a ball diff in certain kinds of turns, but, a gear diff cannot outperform a ball diff when there are many different kinds of turns (like sweepers, 180's, off cambers etc).
The main reason I'm running a gear diff in my T4 (Stock 13.5) is so I spend more time working on my B4 in the mod class.

I just don’t know why if ball diffs are so great, why don’t 1/8 4wd use them?

Is anybody on here breaking rear Tplates on the new 4.1's and Fctory Team SC10's? The plastic seems very brittle and bubbly/ashy inside where the break keeps occuring on all of them i saw break this past Saturday. I have been running AE cars for years now and have never seen this many Tplates break in the same spot
