That is a Gen 5.5 motor, a 5 Port going on the silver head.
This was the model before the current GX Series motors, and is a good motor.
The major differences from the GX are - TiNi coatings, lightened cooling head, and the GX carb.
The crankshaft is the same (less the TINi coating).
All the GX parts will fit straight into this engine, so spares are not a worry.
The carb on the 5.5 is sweet. Just replace the older choclate coloured needle O Rings with the new nitrile ones.

Question:
If my serial # on the block starts with US it has a short needle and if it starts with TW its a long needle?

Is this true for both 5.5 and GX models 3,5,7, port?

If the long needle is better then I would include that and offer the other as on option.

My GO 5.5 3PT is kicking but in my Buggy.I swapped a GX carb on it when it started acting goofy and its been great since.I did notice the seals on the needles were flaking on the 5.5 carb. Is there another difference in the 5.5/gx carb?

Will the new gx rod fit the 5.5 engine and vice versa ?

Long needle vs short is a matter of opinion. I like the short needle, but don't mind the long needle. I may end up switching to the long needle eventually but for now i'm happy with short needles.

The gx rod, piston and sleeve will fit in the older crankcases as discussed on the last page and vice versa. The new carb will fit on the older engines as well and is very nice.

You can't go by serial number for the needle, have to physically look at it.

I have a 5.5 5 port, US serial number, it came with the long needle from A main.
