Well, yes and no. This thread is more a testament to how WE, as a community, can help people with their questions...no matter how obscure or preference-based they may be.

It's not always 'you get what you pay for' because I've heard of 500.00 engines that were garbage (anomolies) and the manufacturer tellin em too bad so sad. Or 'stick with the winners' because the winners are very experienced and can usually buy five engines and choose the best one for that particular day. Or, 'do what everyone else is doing so you have support' because everyone else might be running 3-gallon engines and not know how to tune or care for them and that's not what you want. The right answer is: there is no right or wrong answer for you.

engines are typically based by PRICE,SUPPORT,POPULARITY and performance.
if you rate those engines based on that your down to 2
werks and nova. And if Houstin goes on vacation your down to one

Wait...here's a good answer.

Find a reseller that is extremely dedicated and offers mods, repairs, and break-in services. Pay the little extra for the peace of mind. You'll get an engine that's been inspected, broken-in, and tuned pretty close for your area. These guys exist solely to make guys as fast as they can be with minimal risk and worry.

Hands down O.S. would be the best choice. In the past three os four years different buggies have won the big one including the rtr D8. They all had one thing in common. They where all powered buy the V-spec speed. Now O.S. has made it even better when no one could beat the old one. The over seas priceing is the best. when it gets to the U.S. expect it to be a $500 engine.

I'm running the Nitrotec right now and love it.

Had a Clockwork's B5 and that was insane power popped my tires going up my driveway (Really steep), untill it sucked dirt. Neal has some pretty crazy customer support his engines make insane power.

Had a Clockwork's JPX-21 Plus that was also brutal power, also sucked dirt -_-

B6 I drove (My racing buddy) seems great.

Like mentioned before pick one that suits your budget (Werks is deffinately affordable, his customer support is killer too, and you can call him or post on the forums for help!) just dont pick some random junk name lol

So true... any engine is good for a gallon or two. But an engine that hits its prime from 3-8 gallons is getting more rare everyday

Some lesser quality inexpensive engines will last and some won't , that's the nature of that beast . The higher quality more costly engines are priced the way they are for a reason , they are inspected much more thoroughly , made of much higher quality materials and have a better success rate

I found VSPECS ran great but didn't last long, at least not in a truggy.

Had an RB before that lasted a long time.

Have an Alpha Plus now, 2 gallons and still isn't even really broken in. (VSPEC was DONE at 3 to 3.5)

Tons of awesome engines out there...My advice is always keep an open mind and be willing to try new things from time to time... There are plenty of high quality engines on the market today so its pretty hard to make a bad choice....All these engines can be made to run really sweet, you just need to get them setup correctly.. I don't care what anyone says, there is no "Best Engine on the market" ..every engine has different characteristics and will do some things better then other engines will.....90% of successfully tuning any brand nitro engine is having the correct setup clutch,pipe,plug and fuel....I can run any brand engine stock or modified and you will struggle to find anyone with a sweeter running engine then what I am running.....I can make a Picco or Go run just as good as I can make a OS or RB run..The difference is finding the sweet setup for each engine...Brand matters very little these days..... Some brands are built better then other brands, so they should last longer...But being in the engine biz I see most engines meet their demise by user error anyways, so it matters little which brand they run........I cannot stress enough that its the user behind the that engine matters far more then what brand engine you run....
