Tamiya F104 Pro!

My thoughts also Jay, I have been thinking about getting a F-104. Parts and foams for the 103 are getting harder to get and will no doubt become even harder. Are you running the F-60 or a 104 PRO?

I'm going to run the f60 body and wings though as they work better
F60's are so cheap I've been debating getting that as well just to try the flexi top deck and/or chassis for more traction

Can anyone recommend an alternative to the Tamiya tire tape, other than CA or contact cement?

If you do the contact cement the right way it is a pretty good method.
The way I do it is to coat the rim and the inside of the tire with the contact cement.
This is the trick, take an acid free brush and wet it with lacquer thinner. Wet down the cement on the tire and immediately slide the tire on the rim.
The thinner will make the cement slimy enough that it will be workable for a minute or so.
Let it set up for a couple of minutes and you should be good to go

I use this for miniz, it works well, it helps if you heat up a bit before putting the tire on.

Looking for a little insight .... ran my F104 last night (indoor asphalt) with the new Tamiya option rubber rears (medium touring car insert) and the older medium (?) rubber fronts (stock insert). I've run rubber tires on this car before but with this combo I'm experiencing things I have not before. I had a heck of a time getting the rear to stay planted. Still not sure if the car was hooking or if the rear was just loose. When I got the rear end to stay planted I introduced a wicked push. If the rear end was just a hair loose, it seemed the car hooked causing the rear end to come around. The other factor may be that on high speed corners the car chatters causing very inconsitent corning. Couldn't really tell if it's the front end or the rear causing this, though my guess is the rear is just grabbing too much.
When I left last night the car was drivable though not as fast as I'm sure I can get it. Trust me when I say I tried everything I could think of, but I guess I'm looking for ideas I may have missed. I ended up with these basic settings:
Black front springs
5mm front, 4mm rear ride height
Zero camber - helped with the hooking but introduced the push
Soft T-Plate
1/2mm spacers between T-Plate and chassis
No lube (dry)
T-Plate screw set very loose
No spring on center shock
A little bit of toe out
To summarize, the problem seems that if I introduce too much steering the car gets crazy loose, yet if I plant the rear end the push gets out of hand. I'm not new to this so I get that this is how it works. I've just not experienced it so drastically before with my F103 on rubber.
Thanks !

Seriously, my experience mirror's Marty's. Stick with the foams for carpet, unless you can get another brand.
On the other hand, I tried the option tires on an asphalt track, which was semi dusty, and it was around 60F. Not bad. I'm sure these tires will work fine on a cleaner and/or warmer track.

Can the touring tyre insert fit into F1 tyre?
