Tamiya F104 Pro!
#2596

hey guys - got a really annoying queston here...
was running my F104 (maiden run) yesterday on a prepared asphalt track, with the stock setup (and 40wt oil/red spring in the shock, soft t-plate) and kit foam tires...
on the turns i was fine, not matter how sharp or flowing the turn was, the car was good not planted but good. now on the straight away was another story - the slightest touch on the steering and the car went skating across the track...I've gone as far as adjust my exp down to -80% in the hopes of calming the steering down, but still got nothing
I've talk to one of the guys who's car was real good (TQ'ed and won the event), and he showing me a few things: loosen the center screw out so there's some gap, a long flourscent red center spring, fix my ride height and adjusted the shock length. the car was marginally better, and then got worse as the mains came...
i'm completely stumped and looking for any kind of help i can get
thanks

any1 get this car to work (not on 103 level, but in its own right)? i'd like to get 1 as f1 is beginning to stir interest at the local track, but all i read and hear from the track is how it handles like poo and watchin the TCS from frederick earlier this yr the 2 videos (103s and 104s) is night and day. yeh i know comparing to a 103 and yeh foams vs rubber. but it seemed like the car wanted to diff-out at a moments notice.
i hope tamiya continues to sell the 103 (if only with limited edition bodysets tamiya!!!!!), that wolf wr1 looks delicious indeed though (but that has a 103 front clip on it).

Were the tires brand new or near original diameter? In my previous experience, I've noticed on fresh new tires that there was a "skatey wander" down the straights. It's pretty sketchy but eventually the tires wear away and the floaty feel gets better. Is this a similar to what your experiencing? Are other drivers' tires trued down?

a few were trued down, and some were close to full height...
any recommended diameter before the grip comes in?

My first official race with the 104. My car is at pole position. Still trying to figure out the car so I take some wiiide turns lol. Any way, I hope this class gains good ground. Feels good to drive something other than TCs.

That was our first "official" F1 race at the track as we are trying to get that class going. Got five entries and some interest so we're off to a good start.

I was on kit foams that come with the car, the kit fronts wear fast out side, and they picked up a wicked push when it got cool outside.. Tamiya has new Option foams out that should do the trick, I really hope the rubber tires will hook up with the new Tamiya rubber tires released.
For foam the tires that Dawson was on looked to steer nicley after they warmed up a bit, we had a good in the main..he was able to get under me in the tight sections. cant wait till next time !
