Well after many years of having a virtually new Duratrax Warhead ( 3 Tanks ). Bought it a week after the first warheads came out.
I made up my mind to make it my first conversion
I've got a brand new Mamba Monster ESC+2650kV motor sitting on my work table and a TEKNO V3 motor mount.
I just need to fab it to a piece of 2" angel aluminum. Then attach it to the Warheads chassis.
I also ordered my first 2.4 Tx/Rx setup ( Spektrum DX3.0 & 3CH Rx )
Also got a forward only shaft for the transmission. That was " FUN ". Since i have NEVER done anything in a RC transmission.
The rest should be a walk in the park.
I'm going to run it all on a 5000mAh 3S1P 40C flightmax LiPo. This will be my first time running LiPo as well
I know i can run more cells on the mamba and i probably well. Just to do speed passes, But the guy helping me said the transmission cant handle much over 30kRPMs. So im going to just run on 3S when im bashing it and maybe go 4 or 5S. If i feal like risking my trany.
I need to solder some plugs to my ESC. witch should be fun, since I've soldered TWICE in my life lol
I am going deans, since it seems like everyone swears by them
Only thing now is the spur gear. i want to use the metal 49T 1 i bought, but i cant get the metal plates from the old 1 to go on the new 1. i'll post a pic to show what i mean ( last pic )
Here's a few pictures, So you guy can give me any pros & cons or Hints & tips. For a little fish jumping into a HUGE FING POND lol
here's the trans back together with the reverse gears out

here the truck gutted, Sept for the steering & brake servos

Good old disc brakes

I sure you all know what this is. MAMBA 2650kv & TEKNO V3 motor mount

The heart & brain of the truck

i need to get 1 of the 2 metal plates to go into the blue spur gear, But i dont know if i really need to reef on it, to get it to go in

3S and 2650 might be not so good.
Be very carefull driving and temping it before you drive it hard.
trucks this caliber usually need 5S and ~1700Kv to be safe temp wise.
You might get away with it but if you can get a bigger slower motor do it.

Plus 1700Kv would be WAY to wheelie happy 4 me
I will VERY rarely be pushing it hard. I don't have the room for 1.
It might see full throttle 5% of the trucks life.
It's more of a mosher. since i live in the woods

This looks very interesting. I've always had a thing for Duratrax stuff. Converting a Warhead into Brushless is very tempting. That thing is like a humongous beast...

yea it is a turd lol they said the plasitic was " brake proof " What a joke. 3 tanks i broke both body mounts and a shock tower lol.
i cant say much about the motor since i have not run it. It looks sweet lol
I should be getting my angle aluminum tomorrow and fab it up also.
My batterys are at the post office as well. so thats good.
only thing else i need is my deans plugs. Then im ready to finish it
I'll post so more pics up once i move forward on it

ok cool post up some results when your ready , i ahve that same motor and esc waiting to be dropped into my slash pe 4x4 when it arrives. The duratrax parts are all backed by the stress tech warranty for the first year . I have never found there parts (plastics) to hold up to abuse . I used to have a efw nitros and in one crash something would always break. I guess thats why they have the stress tech gaurantee to lure you in and you know most people arnt going to want to wait to send in for new parts ...

Dude I highly suggest if you bought the MMM/2650 from Castle and you didnt use the motor yet ask them if you can swap the motor for the 2200 and get a 4 to 5S lipo. Thats what was made for big heavy trucks, it has the torque to move them. On 3S and it being short v=canned that 2650 isnt going to have any off the line power. Look what comes with the E-revo and Tork, MMM/2200. If you stick with it I hope it works but on paper it doesnt its a heat issue waiting to happen.

i only want 35-40mph and as little wheelies as posible. cooling isnt to much off a worry cause i wont be pushing it hard and running a fan. i just dont have the room.
Plus i dont think the truck it self well last long or i should say the drvetrain. once it craps out im going to get a slash roller off ebay
This thing is purely basher. so it well see 1/2-3/4 throttle most its life.

check out the castle creations blower for that motor at $12.99 its def worth it and looks cool http://www.castlecreations.com/products/cc_blower.html ,,, i think you should be fine with that motor choice aslong as gear correctly , these motors can take a ton of abuse and are def hard to get hot . He should be fine , the 2200kv maybe may have been the better choice but that one is just as good . I have a 2650kv for my slash 4x4 since its light even though most will prob use the 2200kv , hopefully i get the car soon...
