I think the RC18 parts are very decent quality. The plastic shocks work just well enough to keep costs reasonable. I could care less about short course styling, but I dont think it looks bad at all. I am just excited to see some new stuff come from the 18 camp. I hate 16th scale, its too big for the mini tracks I race on, and too small to keep up with 10th scale stuff.

I have to say this thing doesn't excite me one bit. It looks like parts are carried over from the RC18T. And the parts seem to be of low quality - the plastic bodies shocks for example. The body and wheels also horrible. The SC10 is the ugliest stadium truck in my opinion and the SC18 takes it to another level. The flat grilled front end is particularly ugly.

I also don't get the point of the belt drive system. This isn't an on-road car...

The only good thing about this new model and the other recent 1/16 and 1/18th release is that it proves to the haters that minis are not dead.
1) Minis have never been "hated or dead" as you so colloquially put it.
2) Ever seen or heard of a Cat SX, XX4 or any of the like? Belt driven and not onroad.
3) If you're more concerned with how your vehicle looks rather then how it runs, you should ditch RC for collecting diecast models.
4) You must have ESPN or something to be able to tell that the parts are made of low-quality plastic just from one perspective magazine image.

Aside from the from that, I like the idea of this truck. It appears they have re-invented their 18th chassis so new versions of the 18T and B shouldn't be that far off. Perhaps even an 18TC? That'd be sweet.
My only reservation is that this vehicle is, in fact, 18th scale while the Slash is a good deal bigger.
Further proof that the Mini VXL models are better suited for the yard rather then the track.

Also......PHEW! Thank goodness that huge pic isn't on the first page anymore.

That is Traxxas' fault. The M Revo sells like hotcakes because its a great basher. But around here the M Slash is a flop. 18th scale RC has been established far too long to have 16th scale come in and expect to take over. I say hats off to AE for not making this truck to compete with the Slash. I think this one will sell much better.

I cannot speak for Jatotheripper, but while I do have ESPN, I don't have the ability to evaluate the quality of plastic parts from a series of photos.

Uh oh, I hope the above statement doesn't get me kicked off of THIS forum.

But seriously, I do think highly of the plastic that Associated has used on its 1/18 vehicles (the durability speaks for itself), and my only criticism would be the stock steering configuration. I hope that the SC18's stock steering setup is a big improvement.

1. There are people who dislike smaller RCs. There are also people who have claimed they're dying. I see it on forums all the time.
2. Yes, I have. I'm not a fan of belts. So what's your point?
3. Any vehicle, including RCs, should function AND look good. Are you telling me you don't care about the looks of your RCs at all?
4. Plastic shocks are junk. I didn't mean the quality of the plastic is junk.
5. If you can find any "proof" from this ad that Traxxas minis don't belong on the track then maybe you have "ESPN".
6. Obviously, you're just trying to start petty bullshit! Grow up.

Ya it looks like they improved the Servo Saver, if it has a stronger draglink then I would say its much improved.

Interesting... the battery is on the right side. A sealed belt drive is intriguing... no bevel gears to chew the teeth off of.

The "proof" is the fact that Associated didnt follow suit and build a SC16. Associated builds race RCs unlike Traxxas who builds what the marketing departments says will sell. If the 1/16th Slash was a real race truck then Associated would have made the SC16. Proof of this is the 1/10th stuff, Big Slash belongs on a track and all of the other companies saw this and now we have SC10, Blitz, Etc.

1) So that's an opinion
2) Umm, so you DO know that belts are not just for onroad as you had previously stated.
3) Yeah, I do care what my rides look like, but an ugly stock body has never kept me from buying a good handling vehicle.
4) I guess every stock slash and 18t out there has junk shocks, eh? It's my opinion that these shocks are great in both appearence and function.
5) Speaking from personal experience and the fact that the VXLs do not fit into any other class regulations.
6) Nice response there guy (kid, gal....whatever you are)! I was actually trying to contradict your prejudicial comments for the sake of argument and/or in hopes that they would not deter anyone from buying said vehicle.
But it was nice of you to start with the vulgarities and all.

3. The associated bodies (sc8, sc10, now the 18sc) are the most realistic bodies...
