Hi, I'm looking to get the path of least resistance from my ESC to my motor. Right Now I'm using bullets that are well corroded for the connection. Should I replace the bullets with new ones? Or should I put deans on it, or is it worth it to go for a direct solder?

Direct solder would be best, but after that I would go for some bullets, hobbycity has some 4mm bullets that can handle 93A (or so it says) which to my knowledge is far more than the deans.

Easiest is to just get a new set of bullets and redo the connection. I doubt there is enough resistance to a good quality bullet that you'd notice any loss they might be causing.

I hear about the amp ratings for deans but has anybody actually melted one???

I have never had an issue with melthing deans. THey get fairly warm at times with a big run on an 8.5 brishless, but thats it

Direct solder is best for least resistance but I prefer a good quality bullet connector such as Caslte's CC Bullets just for ease of maintenance down the road. You likely will not notice the difference between a good quality bullet and direct connect.

I have run Deans for years on everything from 1/18th to 1/8th electric and never had a problem. Car Action tested plugs sometime back and Deans was the winner; the Sermos power poles were second. I think another company makes these now. The resistance was equal to direct solder. The benefit is you can disconnect quickly if needed; can't do that with direct solder. IMO

but from what you guys are saying, it goes in order from direct to bullets, then deans.

Ill probably go to direct just because I don't plan on changing anything in this car once I'm done building it.

My method is do 5mm or bigger bullets then put heat shrink over it. heat shrinks are easy to cut off for maintenance and easy to put back on but keeps it water proof and prevent corosion.

when i was brushed i used deans...
switched to brushless 13.5T... switched to bullets(cause there is 3 wires)

switched to BL 8.5T and now its soldered. And only due to the fact that my best mate is an auto electritian thats a gun with a soldering iron and does a ultra clean job.

I liked the bullets for ease of pulling the motor or speedy out seperately if needed..

No, I haven't seen where anyone claimed they had one melt while running.
Those Deans knock offs (HC?) are diff, several complaints on RCMonster about them gettting hot enough to go soft to where the metals pieces move around.

I think I remember something from a few years back, saying that Deans are good for 100 amps... I think.


I do know that Deans has less resistance than the equivalent amount of solder...

Without a jig, they're kind of a PITA to do, though

The only place I used bullets, is brushless motor wires...
