Go-Tech Engines Thread

I ran my 7 port for the first time on Monday. I'm running an OS carb and had some issues at first but got it started up and running decently. Top end still needed tuning but that's not what I stopped running.
One of the MIDDLE fins on the cooling head BROKE and was just laying on the one under it! How does this even happen? I didn't have any major spills and the wing and body protect the head so I'm still not sure how this even happened? Maybe the previous owner had a spill and didn't know?
Anyone got a 7 port head they don't want? I just need the head, not the button.

From what I understand, making the hole in the body for the engine head larger will help reduce the chance of the fins breaking off. I have a about a 1/4 inch gap between my body and engine head and I have yet to break a fin.

Yup me too..I broke the fins on my first 7 port head and I had broken 2 fins on the new gen 5 I just killed too..I do have a spare undamaged 7 port head but if you fit the cooling fin back into place carefully and use little JB weld(the 24hr stuff not the rapid) between the fins next to the core it fixes em pretty good..I broke fins on RB novarossi and os motors before so it's not just a GO problem..main thing to be sure of is enough clearance between your body shell and the fins...when you flip the car upside down the body gets a fair whack and will easily break fins if it touches em..same as the lexan will cut off your exhast stinger if you don't leave enough clearance..

hehe you beat me to it..1/4 inch might be a litle much.but only just..most people are lucky if they have 1-2mm..too close..cools better with a bigger gap too..

man im lizy i tell you i hate cuttin the bodies out i only use the gen losi bodies for my buggy and truggy i just love how its all preped and ready to paint the only thing i need to do is create a hole for the stinger mate
i have never broken a head yet even on the old 7 port

Uncle's Go .25 broke 3 of the fins after around 6 gallons
Dad's Go 3 Port Race broke 2 of the fins after around 8 gallons
My first Go 5 Port broke 2 of the fins after around 5 gallons
My second Go 5 Port broke 3 of the fins after around 4 gallons.
so every single Go engine we've had haven't survived with all fins lol, this is the only problem I see with Go engines.

If I break any fins on my MG66 I'm going for one of those cnc jobs the guy was selling on here..donut or something I think his name was..Be a shame to lose the trick black finish but cnc radiates heat better than cast anyway so better cooling..
