my grp came alive after 2.5- 3 gallons had gone through it....
these motors like to run lean top end and fat on the bottom end ...
i had to play around with clutch set up and pipe befor i was completley happy with the motor but once its run in and its a different beast all together

running lean on top and fat on bottom tend to starve the motor of fuel it Needs on top end and you over compesate on the low end to get it to idle right with that Jacked down High speed and the Low speed being so far out......IMO ninja's and GRP's need a Fat top and lean bottom.

It seemed happier when it was leaner on the bottom and fatter on the top, when I was first driving it in the yard breaking it in but once I got to the
track and started running it, it seemed too lean on the bottom so we fattened it up. It has never ran cooler than 190*, while actually driving it, though so I am a little leary of running it leaner. I tried loosening up the clutch (higher engaugement) but it made no difference. The 053 Dynamite pipe should be fine......Not sure, waiting on a call back from my local GRP guru to see what he thinks, also.

my experiance with the grp has been quiet different then i have found this motor to run alot leaner on the top and richer on the bottom no dramas with trhe motor at all i guess every one will tune a little different........
not only that if you starve your motor of fuel you will notice it in driving and you will hear it lean bog

thanks to everyone for all their info on this thread. i got my tuned running like a rolex... still needs about 10 deg cooler i think, but i went 10minutes last night in the main with a little left over... smooth power, no lean bog, no rich low-end (got rid of that surge when i let off at the end of the straight) and it idles on the box long enough to smoke half a cigarette without loading up at all.

The temps defiantly drop 15-20 degrees after they are fully broken in that seems to be around a gallon. Every GRP I have run did the same thing and then shortly after they are broken in the front bearing starts leaking and you have to drop in another, But after that I have seen them go well into the 9-11 gal mark before the top end seems to suffer. Too bad they are done. GRP made a great little engine. I see A-main pulled them from their website, not even listed anymore. Time for a change.

2nd i believe the DYN 053 is a 2 chamber pipe....the 2053GRP is a 3 chamber pipe...more grunt from 2 chambers ...its less restrictive ...will be trying the 053 on my standard grp next week when i break it in ....
Well, it went to its first race yesterday and I don't know if something if messed up or if this engine is supposed to run this crappy until it is fully
broken in but it wouldn't get out of the hole to save its life yesterday.
I am one TURN out from factory on the low side, and still at the factory settings on the high side and it still will NOT smoke down low. Temps in the
190's, NO bottom end. Tried leaning it from factory, no change. Seemed to get better with more fuel but I went for the smoke just to keep it alive for now. Gotta get it to my LHS/GRP guy for proper tune.
P.S. It has one gallon of fuel on it now.

Integra , just out of interest maybe its just me but compared to other motors i used to run eg os it seemed to like a leaner top end what are you needle measurments ? i will compare to mine but i certainly dont seem to have any trouble with the motor
which is a good thing

i tell you what im surprised about im still on the same glow plug
run the motor in with it raced the national titles with it and every club meet since this glow plug has had almost 10 lt through it
good plugs i think

look through the thread a touch ...you will see most people saying the same thing lean bottom rich top ...alot of people got very short engine life due to the fact that they over leaned the motors trying to tune them like o.s. motors .....not integra but my .02 ...im thinking he will agree

sweet i will have a look , im due to replace my crank bearings so i will fatten it up rich top lean bottom see how it goes then
im still pretty happy with the motor no sighns of wear due to lean running

GRP .21 Tuned, No metal pinch on cold, Not concerned, still plenty of compression and as quoted somewhere else in this thread goes like a raped ape. My usual routine after running would be to run all fuel out, disconnect fuel and pressure lines, remove air cleaner and oil down air intake with slide open , obviously, My question is does it mean my front bearing leaks air if the oil I put in finds its way out the front bearing after leaving my buggy flat over night. Would think any bearing would seep if left with oil sitting on it. What are TKO's.
I only found this thread recently when looking for solution to poor bottom responce. Have since tuned to 5.5 lsn and 4 hsn as seems to be general consensise and holly shit it goes off. Also installed 1.1 mm clutch springs.
Only done this today and haven't had a good chance to run it properly, was rudely interupted by inconciderate neibour complaining about noise, but noticed at end of run after letting it idle for several minutes it really started to high rev and ping. I think my lsn may be a tad lean like 1 hour. ??? any thoughts.

http://www.tkocompetitiondev.com/ this is the web site for ordering your tko bearings
they are awsome, my grp doeant leak any oil from the front bearing even after it has sat for a week or 2, maybe trhe seal is starting to leak

If you put alot of oil in it after you run, like I do, yes the oil will seep out of the front bearing. A leaky front bearing will rear its head after/during running. There will be a large pool of fuel/oil under the engine and on the block and you will have the symptoms of an air leak. However, if you check the front bearing for air leaks it will always leak. Bearings are not a seal, the fuel between the crank and the block is what seals the front of the engine. The engine is too lean on the bottom, richen it up and you should be fine. If you do decide to change the bearings TKO are very good and the price can't be beat for ceramics.

Cheers for your thoughts, I will have another go at that tune at the club meet next weekend. With the hsn at 4 turns but the difference between loading up and running steady is slight. If I leaned the hsn a fraction I suspect that may give me an easier tune. I have always been running 20% nitro for ease of availability and because of what I was told about engine life and little gain. But know after reading this thread and seeing that the GRP is shimmed for 30% I will be going to 25% this race meet as that is what is readily used by other members at my local club. How different will the tune be and what difference will I notice ie wheel spin, exhaust sound, temps ????
