GRP... Engine... Thread...

So, I was curious how good these motors were compared to the Ninja line, But after watching qualifying for the silver state race, I'm impressed.
Drake, and Truhe were going the full 10 minutes + without pit stops. Pretty much every one who was running this motor didn't have to pit and it prooved to be the deciding factor in where the qualified. Drake TQ'd What do you guys think. I plan on buying one for my next motor. |
I also want to try one, but currently I am in love with my RB C6BB. The going rate with pipe is not too shabby either: $420.
|
It's hard to say, as I don't even know if the engine is available at retail yet, or what the asking price range is. If their tyres are any indication, it'll likely be a pricy mill.

I REALLY like RPM, and would for sure sacrifice some bottom end to get it. They make a "rally-cross" motor, but I DOUBT I'll be able to find one in the U.S. when they release them......Sucks.:(

The carb looks identical to the GRP made Ninja carbs. I wouldn't doubt that these engines are almost identical internally to the previous Ninja models. If Ninja owned the rights and/or tooling to the design, wouldn't the OS made ones look the same as the previous Ninjas?
|
the new GRP engines are identical tot he GRP Ninja......... the new Ninja mills are completely new and off in a different direction......... I do beleive the engine designs were owned by GRP not Ninja....... the new GRP mills have the same case, port count, bore, stroke, carb, rod length, crank bore, crank coating etc....they may have tuned the port timings slightly but for intents and purposes the new GRP engines are just GRP Ninja's with a different cooling head.........they may not have been the best ontroad engines but they are fantastic offroad engines..

Does anyone know if the Losi guys are running GRP .28 or .21's in the truggy class at Silver State?
|
Lets see, this motor, holds a good tune, will idle all day,
has a screaming top end, never flames out, great run times and a glow plug will last a season. Sounds like my .21 Ninja to me. I've been running this motor three seasons now and never had any problems. Now just because Drake wins a race with it everyone wants one? Thats friggin funny. I herd that he was wearing a pink G-String when he won that race, you guys got to have one of those too? Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!....... |
I have one ordered at the shop. Release date is scheduled for 3/20. It was 3/10 but you know how losi/horizon is with pushing back dates.
|
I already know this is the same engine as the ninja, almost. I owned the 21 B01 not the B01 A and was quite pleased with it. So it's not new to me. I never got the fuel mileage that this GRP motor has been getting. Myabe it's a motor/pipe combo that helps? It's also the same as the GRP Falcon motor
And I already had the pink thong, so I think Drake needs to thank me for the sucess! |
kinda funny how much run time you can squeeze out of an engine when you lean it out to 300 degrees and use a 6.5 mm carb restrictor  major runtime !!! and screamin , oh buddy !!
|
I would sure hope these things scream! They cost a freakin fortune!
Its cool that "The Drake" won one with it but I am sure "The Drake" surely didnt have pay for it... Its still a little rich for my blood..... I work for a living! I will stick with whatever I can get cheap locally... No thanks! :tire::tire::tire::tire::tire::tire::flaming::tire ::tire::tire::tire::tire::tire: |
I just noticed a week or so ago in an old mag with a test on a 367, and that is the head has vertical holes drilled in from the bottom. This would allow for more surface area to cool the engine, meaning you'll have to run a tad bit leaner than with the typical head to run at proper temperatures, yielding more run time.
Nice, but yeah, more than I'm willing to spend on an engine too. |
All the pros lean their motors down to the maximum, please dont be an ass and try to discredit one engines accomplishments over the others.... a person would have to be pretty naive to assume only the guys running GRP engines were willing to lean down enough to get 10 minutes run time.. All pro drivers will be putting the same type of tune on all the other engine brands..if the GRP's had run time advantages they were due to engine design and not some tuning trick........ lean down a motor too far and lose power, the more fuel you burn the more power you make..leaning down past the sweet spot only hurts power and doesn't make them " Scream "
