From what i understand, there were some issues with the earlier evo3. the evo4 sti's are rockets.

yes that would be correct ,the very early evo 3's had crank problems but that was fixed and has no longer been a problem, i would say you had a worn big end or a bad rear bearing which causes the crank pin to break , this will happen to any brand of motor
evo 3 sti's and evo 4's are one of the best motors youll get straight out of the box, even the evo 3 standard motor in great,
definatly not a common problem

Correction first batch evo 3s had crank problem, all that I know of broke.
This was fixed with more meat and less timing on crank intake, also hardening process was changed. I tested these cranks which were sent from the factory, they had less performance but not one broke that I know of.
Then came the evo 3 STI, coated crank I have seen most of these break at some stage, possibly too brittle. Evo 4s seem to be OK.

Cheers

Sorry both bearing fine, hasnt broken at conrod pin, about 1/3 of the crank has broken off which holds conrod pin. Car was running cool at about 110 c never lean to max on club days.Con rod has no slack at all on pin when i checked it ,and piston and sleeve has plenty of compression left, SHAME REALLY VERY QUICK LITTLE DONK!!!

siro plugs work the best ,no 7 sirio on 16% nitro perfect, and i wouldnt worry about the crank it wont be a problem, and yes it does not come with a plug, and runin is up to you really ,but i would do a couple more than 3/4 tanks

I'm afraid that you are incorrect G!
As Kickass stated above, the early evo 3 motors had the cranks breaking across the middle.
This problem was rectified for the next batch of evo3s!
The sti's crank you already know about!
