1/12 forum
Anyone tried the new LiFePO4 SubC batteries in a 1:12 car? I'm going in to make three packs for my 1:12/1:10 pan cars just to bash around and compare.
I found these and I think, they are a good start for what is to come in the future.

First off I have never run 12th scale and don't know anything about them. I am looking at possibly getting one for the Nats in June. I found this car in the for sale forum and it seems like a good deal especially with possibly five good packs. My question is, is this a current car and is this something that would be good for outdoor asphalt racing.

The cells are 1000mah, but to equal the performance of 4-cell nimh pack 4-LifePO4 cells would be wired in a 2S2P configuration. Making them 2000Mah at 6.4V. Since LiFePO4 cells perform better under load than NiMH cells, the 2000mah Capacity equals a the performance to a 3300mah battery in heavy use.
Since these cells have a fairly flat discharge up to 2.5 volts then dump sharply a users can still have punch to the very end of the race.
To give you an idea of how much power 2000mah is, that would be a constant 15amp load for 8min. Sounds like more than enough capacity for practice heats or even 5min races.

2. I wouldn't purchase packs from any company that had pictures of shoddy battery pack construction on their site, never mind the pictures taken on a dirty stove instead of on a more professional looking piece of seamless.

The chassis itself should be a very good choice. As far as the battery packs, note that the offering DOES NOT say they're "good", it does state that he can't guarantee the performance but that they should be "ok". My own experience is that the 4200's do not do well going to zero, and it sounds like these have been "zero" for a while. Were I buying this package I would assign ZERO value to those packs, plan on them being junk, and be delighted if I ended up with a couple decent practice packs out of them. The IB4200's require a lot of maintenance/hand-holding if they're to remain decent any period of time. They DO NOT like sitting unused/uncharged, have little tollerance for going completely flat/dead-shorting, and have a fairly rapid self-discharge characteristic that sees them going flat MUCH more quickly than other batteries.

The best one, though, is "enough capacity...5 minute races". That car is going to be ballistically fast (i.e. almost impossible to drive--there's a reason 6-cell 1/12 died) but drop to last place as it sits by the track for the last three minutes OF AN EIGHT MINUTE HEAT.
I have my Team CRC Gen-X for sale. It is listed here: http://www.rctech.net/forum/showthread.php?p=4130373#post4130373
I have a couple of Power Push IB-4200 World packs that I'll include. I am currently using them each week in club racing. Charged with a Spintec ICC without any problems. I have more pictures that I'll email to anyone interested.
