Its not only depending on the pinion. You also have to look at the spur gear and pullies as well for the total gearing ratio...
Just giving the guy a safe starting point. Like I said start there and keep going up, didn't say how high he would have to go. Once he figures his rollout baseline the rest is simple. You usually only get one chance to hit the gear right, and a overgeared motor will get overheated and usually need some form of fixing. Since he is melting solder off already and is using fans, whats the com look like?Just trying to keep the solder on and the car running for him without the melt down. Safer to creep up on the gear than trying to come down. And yes I know this could cause heat as well, but, thats where the on track observation comes in, if its got nothing on the straight, go up another pinion. You may have a rocket and anything overgeared will look fast but has no visual feed back, till it goes by and you smell the motor melting. (BTW the 10 over rule was suggested by 2 other motor builder/tuners on this forum)

I was up till very late trying lot's of fan set up's.
I came up with this. The one over the heatsink suck's the air and the other one blow's onto the endbell.The degree's are set now at 1 notch (6 degree's) Thank's for clearing up that one Trf415boy.
I have posted new picks.
The dual fan's went straight on with the 3 racing heat sink all I needed was 2 more screw's.
Thank's again guy's.

Just note that correct gearing is most important in keeping temps in check.

Well guy's Great new's.
I ran the car today not only got my fastest time by over half a second. I ran 2 fully charged batteries. I ran a 102/28. Motor advanced 6 degree's, I got 7 min 47 sec on the first battery. stopped and checked the motor temp and speed controller temp.
First run
Time 7 min 47 sec
Motor endbell 61.5 degrees ( nice and cool)
ESC 38 degree's
Second run
Time 7 min 21 second's
Motor endbell 58.7 degrees
ESC 34.7 degrees
And guess what the solder stayed on.

Your fan setup is good too... it makes sense to suck the air off the can, and blow onto the endbell.
