With a GLR on the way (Thanks Again chjosi!!!) I decided to try to switch over my MR04 Open chassis into a dedicated MX5 chassis, if I could get wheels to fit under the body and not hit the arms. After some playing I was able to get 20mm N 0mm Kyo wheels to work, but they had very little room between the bottom arm and the inside rim of the wheel. They drove ok, but it bothered me with such little room and needing the ride height a little lower, so I went to 20mm N+1mm and had plenty of clearance. Im still playing with tires to get enough turn without rolling, but it's darn quick!

I also am getting my Narrow chassis tweaked with the Yaris Body. It's also a runner, though I can't be as hard in the turns on it compared to the MX5, but a bit more tweak should have it close. It's FUN to watch rip the corners! If a few more get them, maybe a Yaris 90mm MM Class?? The Yaris is a wall grabber as it comes from Kyosho, but some quick file work on the splitter and bottom front edge of the front wheel wells has it gliding off the walls almost as well as the MX5. Now to lay some paint now that it's warming up!

Im running 20mm N 0mm Flanged 6 hole PN wheels with KSK 535 LH on the front and KS-M Soft regular height N on the rear. I super glued the front sidewalls just a bit to stop the slight TR it had. Will get some times today and keep tweaking to get faster! The Yaris and the MX5 can use the same nose clip, which I'm using a 599xx carbon clip, and it fits ok, but if anyone knows of a better fitting carbon fiber nose clip, please let me know! Thanks

iDChuck,
I use CRC Electronic Cleaner aerosol to clean my motors, and have for a long time! It's pretty easy to find and cheaper than rc motor spray. I also use Bachmans EZ lube on the comm, and it really helps with power put down by the motor. It doesn't gum up like the Comm Drops I used as a kid,and it only takes 1 drop, so the small bottle lasts and lasts!

The EZ lube drops make the car run almost like it has an extra battery! It wasn't a big deal to me until I started running Brushless motors, and felt the power difference. Very simple to use, just put 1 drop on the comm before powering the car up, spin the diff a few times by hand to spread the oil around, and that's it. Power the car and go as normal just get ready for it to run a bit faster but much more free.

The new MR04 MM pod covers the endbell so it makes it harder to add the drops, so i just VERY CAREFULLY drill a small hole in the side of the endbell covering the comm and add and clean from there. You can see it in the pics above of the under side shot if you look close.

When I first started racing int he late 80s, the local track didn't allow comm drops, but after the majority of guys figured out how much longer and better the motors ran that rule changed pretty quick. I can see it more as a motor extender than anything else, but no judgments here. Just stay within the rules set by where you race and HAVE FUN!!!

On an side note, I've about got the Yaris worked out, but I need to adjust the ICS settings and my ICS USB adaptor won't connect! So I just ordered a Jackie RC ICS programing box! So hopefully it works as well as they say! I'll report back when it gets here.

also, is anybody else having problems with USPS shipments? Usually they are spot on, but my last 3 or 4 shipments have been days late, and 2 others had to be reshipped as they were "lost" in transit! Wonder if an employee is setting up a Mini-Z club???

Huh? Not at the 4 local places I run. How would they enforce it?

hard to enforce i guess *shrugs*... I just brought it up just so racers don't start using drops for home track or this challenge and DQ at their local races...

I've never heard of com drops being outlawed, but then I've only run brushed 1/10th scale, and slotcars. Next you'll be saying that water dipping the motors is illegal also?

Notes - I did well on this run, I tried focusing on minimum mistakes. I figured a mistake will cost you 1 or 2 sec and to make up those mistakes is to be consistently fast a few laps to recover.

thank you! Hopefully i can be as fast as you guys. I feel like i'm pushing the envelopes already with my latest run, I can't imagine going any faster! I could probably lose 10 more seconds from the previous run at the max.

I say the same thing every month when Poor_Boy and I chat. The more clean laps you run, the lower your time will go.

Another thing that helped me was when a local experienced racer told me, "90%. You should only drive at 90%."

I have heard that before, but sometimes you have to learn the limit to find that 100% and back off as necessary to 90%. and yes, even if i have to slow down in my laps just to prevent an accident, is better than having a mistake.
