Several of you have stated that FPV just does not work on RC cars, but this video says otherwise. So, how did Traxxas get stable FPV shots on an Off-Road buggy if FPV is not possible? The FPV footage of it going off a jump and in the air is pretty awesome. Someone finds out how they did this and they can take RC Race Coverage to a new level.
I never said save, I said that the release of the Jato 4x4 could bring new racers to the track, but existing racers only seem to want new racers as long as they conform to what they want, which is one of the reasons why people have no interest in devoting time to racing. They just want it to be fun.

In a same price range you can find (I think) better RTR E-buggy cars from the race brands. Traxxas cars are bought by Traxxas fans and most of them are and stay bashers.
Regarding that movie, it is no FPV, it is the use of an action cam, look on the YT channel of Ryan Lutz who has made plenty onboard movies.

How do you know for a fact that those other e-buggies are better when the Jato VXL has yet to lay down a timed lap? Stop making assumptions based on your feelings. And it's not just Traxxas fanboys buying Traxxas as you say and Traxxas users aren't all bashers. Traxxas is big in the crawler community. Traxxas makes fun vehicles, they also make one of the most scale RC's out there, the UDR.

That said, Traxxas has been known to be able to become competitive, however it takes a small fortune in upgrades and modifications to make Traxxas truly track worthy:
Over the years I have raced alongside many 4WD Slashes against my TEKNO SCT410 and Traxxas cars are rarely able to complete a race day without a single break unless you're a squeaky clean driver like Jonathan Hernandez was in that video above. Generally Traxxas designs are dated which lack key aluminum and carbon updates which make them relatively fragile on a 1/8 track. I am not seeing any evidence to support the Jato will hold up to the rigors of club racing, but I do agree that the Jato may help draw in new blood so there may be a silver lining here

I actually knew somebody who did that. Brought his own beer with him, and it was the cheapest beer out there. Always kept it hidden so the kids didn't see it. But the more he drank the better he got! He was one of those guys who had the weirdest setups but he was good enough to make them work.
Case in point one time he used a microswitch as a speed control. Full throttle or nothing. But he made it work.

i wonder how that would play out today.

only allow those with the identical vehicle to race in that class?
Doesn't that exclude others?

One of our local tracks runs a standard Slash class on most off-road days.......they usually get a few entries, and it is the gateway drug for some. Especially when they get mixed in with the truggies and they see how much better the truggies are and start asking questions.
Not making a case for Traxxas as a race brand, just saying if done correctly some of their vehicles can be gateway drugs to other "racier" platforms

Tracks would be opening up left and right if racing had basher numbers. Those Traxxas display/try me track at NHRA and other events average $20,000 in sales per weekend.
