What’s the point of using 100+ watt supplies when the TS101 advertises 45W max when using USB-C?

Because the TS101 can do 90W when used with a suitable PD 3.1 supply and a firmware update. Otherwise you're limited to 45W on USB-C and are better off just using a DC barrel jack that'll give you 65W instead.

It's incredibly unlikely that a phone or tablet will come with a suitable PD 3.1 supply, they don't need that kind of wattage.

Incorrect it’s only a 45watt iron when you use a normal 20volt usb c power brick. Buts it’s much stronger at being a 90 watt iron when feed with a usb c pd 3.1 140watt+ power brick which can feed it 28 volts.

‘if your only using a 20volt pd power brick your better off useing the barrel plug so you can feed it 24 volts via a 6s lipo or a power supply so it will be a 60watt iron just like the original ts100.

iPhone user, owned an Anker 65W PD charge brick since the day they released. Not sure what you're talking about? Every person in my house has one, all their friends have one. basically since iPhones stopped putting chargers in their boxes everyone i know bought one.

A 65W PD brick ain't going to cut it for the TS101. You can't just use any old brick.

As for iPhone, only the latest model released less than a year ago uses Type C. They were a proprietary lightning port before that. That's besides the point though, I was pointing out that the only person who had a PD 3.1 compliant unit suitable for use with the TS101 didn't get it for their phone unlike what the earlier poster suggested.

I like my Milwaukee M12 iron. It gets hot enough easily and doesn't take long to warm up, 20~30 seconds or so and its good to go. Comes with 2 tips, the larger one is about 5mm wide chisel tip. I have their Rotary tool as well, so they share the same batteries.

There was a reason I ignored his response above. This dude must like to read his own typing. I just ignore it because it's typically a useless post if he authored it. Notice his first post isn't answering my question, but instead it is him being argumentative.

You need at least version 2.0 for PD 3.1 support.

Not sure why some people are so hell bent one absolutely needing to pump 100W into an iron. I guess those marketing mumbo jumbo really got to them. These TS100, 101, pinecil V1, V2 or similar soldering iron are PID temperature controlled and wont go beyond 450 or 480c. Unless you are soldering some THICCCC wires on top of a heatsink in freezing Arctic weather or just cannot live without having a soldering iron be ready to use in <5 seconds, you absolutely do not need that much power.

I have a Pinecil V1 and with only 45W I was able to solder the stock 8 or 10awg power wire off of an iCharger duo 308 which sits on top of an HUGE heatsink. You will have no issues with typical 12awg wires on and off any ESC, motor, battery connectors and anything a regular hobbyist would ever need.

The same reason why people think they need at least a 20kg servo in their tourer while a 3kg will work fine, it is called marketing and bigger is better.

Yes! Exactly, I don't want to wait. Nor do I want to wait for the tip to heat back up after soldering one wire.

So to oppose your comment, I don't understand why people care what I want or need...
