I use to use the ts100 but the ts101 is such a huge upgrade. when powered with a usb c 27 volt pd 3.1 power supply it’s crazy strong. With the c4 tip I can unsolder any esc wiring instantly.

6S?! I don't own any 6S batteries and certainly not going to buy one and lug it around just for soldering pen.

Then there is Butane. The Blue Point one was pretty anemic for any major soldering. The big Butane one seems adequate. It heated to 750 degrees in a few seconds.

While I own and use the 1UP DC portable iron (TS100 varaint), if I were to do it again today, I'd probably buy a 120-volt iron, as everywhere I race has AC power available. The Exalt and Trinity irons look decent, but don't seem to have many tip options. I'd probably buy the Hakko FX-600D. Plenty of replacement tip options (uses same tips as FX-888) and is still very portable.

Since most people use Type C PD for charging their phones/tablets/laptops, buying a TS101 or a Pinecil V2 soldering iron seems logical when everyone already have the power brick already and those soldering iron is small, light, slim, fast and powerful.

I've only ever seen one person at the track with a Type C PD supply. They're an iPhone user (no Type C port) and bought it specifically for their soldering iron. "Most" seems like a stretch to me.

At home perhaps, but the guys I see at the track are using wireless charging (some RC chargers have built in charging pads) or they're just not charging their phone at the track because batteries last long enough to make it home.

LoL are there any Boomers still racing? Aren't they 70+ years old now? Majority of us on rctech would be Gen y and x.

Either way, USB-C is way more common. Not just in Australia. You’d think a younger crowd would especially be aware of it. I even use USB-C to support my nitro cars so I definitely agree that using a soldering iron with USB-C makes sense. I race with others that also use USB-C in the pits.

USB-C is common, but high power PD 3.1 compatible supply units are far less common. You'll want something around 100W or more for a TS101. I think you'll only get 45W or so with PD 3.0 on a TS101.

Yes you need a pd 3.1 usb c 140watt+ power brick to supply 28volts to the ts101 to get max power but it’s so worth it!!! This is my opinion is the best soldering setup. Still works ok with your typical 6s lipo/24 VOLT SUPPLY but 28+Volts with usb c pd3.1 really puts the power at a whole new level.

This can be an endless discussion. Yes, for mobile phones and tablets there are within the EU rules that new models must have USB-C but still many headsets, bluetooth speakers and other simple equipment still comes with Micro-USB. I industrial electronics the USB-B is still well used
