  • All motor screws must be stock type, stock dimension, magnetic steel only.
  • Rotor must be the stock, unaltered, GRC2002 rotor only.
  • Sensor board must be the stock, unaltered, GRC2003 Spec Sensor Unit only.
  • Stator must be the stock, unaltered, GRC2001 21.5 Spec Stator only.
Motor Specs & Tolerances:
  • All tests must be done at 75* F
  • Minimum Average Stator Pole Resistance: 30.0 ohms
  • Max Timing @ 5,000rpm: 33*

All this said and done, other than the bitching on the internet, the class is incredibly successful and I don't know that any changes are needed.

Nobody's going to win or lose because of the screws in their motor alone. It's the combined effort of finding many ways to gain hundredths & thousandths per lap.
What about bearings? I find it odd that any bearings are good to go ... yet a few screws change and it's OMG!

Bearings are going to be very hard to tech. There's no point having unenforceable rules.

People jumping through so many hoops to bend the rules, just as well make the class open motor.

What do you mean by "medium size"? Is the track standard gymnasium size? Convention centre size? What's your layout like - fast and flowing? Technical? A mix of the two? Is it CRC carpet or something else?

2.90-3.30 seems to be the range. The motor doesn't ever get hot, so just try different gears and go off lap times.

this sentence is straightforward and leaves little room for interpretation. If the intent was to not allow the changing of the screws then it should have stated such.
The rules now read, "Aluminum, titanium, stainless steel or other non metallic main can or end bell screws are prohibited for USGT competition."

I’m guessing this rule was changed because RobK reads this forum. Word to all cheaters. Don’t post on a forum that you are cheating.

Cheating is simply racing until there is a rule change.

If you take out the subjective stuff, it's easier: "If it's not in the rules, consider it illegal."

I like to tinker. “If it’s not in the rules, consider it an opportunity”.

You kill a class by making it not fun.

There's always three types of racers. Those who push the boundaries looking for an edge, those who just want to have fun, and those who want the rules so restrictive that even the type of nut on the wheel is regulated.

The class that thrives seems to be the one that hits the happy medium between flexibility, fun, and regimentation. Our USGT-esque class, Scale Spec, has racers of all stripes and it is going gangbusters. Almost 50 racers, last I checked. Everything from the entry level first-time racer, up to guys going almost as fast as mod cars. Because we hit that happy medium. All chassis are welcome. All 21.5 motors are welcome. All bodies that look like GT cars are welcome. We still have to use the USGT-spec tire, though.
