USGT
I'm not saying I agree with it or not. Just stating what many folks do. Technically its perfectly legal to tune the motor if it falls within specs. How is it any different than buy a standard RevTech/Slot Machine or getting a Team Spec RevTech/Slot Machine? Or a Standard R1 Works motor, or one with top rotor and stator for a few bucks more?
Or how about where sponsored factory drivers get the best of the best and the average Joe couldn't buy the same motor if he wanted to?
Personally I liked it back in the mid 1980's when we ran at American Hobbies in Englishtown, NJ. The owner Larry would buy cases of brushed 540 can fixed timing stock 27T motors. He would take them out of the box, epoxy the tabs and each one was engraved with serial numbers. You could buy three for the season. Total luck of the draw with what you got. Break-in and lubrication was all you could really do.

I have yet to get my USGT motors tuned, but just wondering how much faster is a tuned motor versus off the shelf? A couple tenths? Half a tenth?
I like Tony P’s idea, but instead everyone who is racing USGT that day (mark your motor so you know it’s yours) put the motors in a hat and everyone pick one from the hat. If you pick your own, pick another. That would make for some interesting racing. At the end of the day you get your motor back.

We do this with stock 1/12 (CanAm) at our track. You get a random one for the day, and it goes back in the box after racing.
My USGT motor went right from its retail packaging and into my car, and I don't think about it one bit. We have a lot of great, close racing in this class at our track.

A friend says “My money, my hobby”. As long as the car meets the rules and a tech inspection it’s not for you to say where a guy finds his fun. If you’re not into improving performance (real or imagined) move on and enjoy your hobby your way. If you’re po’d because someone is searching for an advantage, well…, thats racing brother.

In the end, clubs have to be smart about their rules so they don't have to rely on anyone's "spirit".

After reading some of these post, I put my gravity motor on the analyzer and the timing was 31, 28, 26 with an average of 28. I pulled the sensor endbell off to take a look and one of the sensors was already cracked from them trying to move them over to meet spec. The sensor legs were bent way way over. These gravity motors are kind of crap. The one that was broken was the 28deg B sensor. This is kind of a turn off on USGT.
2.80 on normal carpet track.... 28 to 30 degrees.... 2..9 on 31 to 33.... My motor is 28...and its not slow, it just requires a little different gear. Ive got one of the first motors and its still go enough to make the A-main and win races. You may have one thats damage but try a little gear and see if it is awake
