im my experience, despite the motors having some slight differences here and there ( 200-300 rpm and maybe .2-.3 amps ), they have ran the same on the race track. its an amazing motor for spec style races. i have seen some dirt oval and some off road classes utilize it. compaired to pen 21.5 motors however, it is lacking power. so if you run it against other open 21.5s u will be down on power, and will need to run a lot more gear then they will.
The USGT motor is PERFECT for all spec classes where everyone runs the same motor. There isnt a wide variance from motor to motor. I liked the motor when we ran it here locally. It didn’t last as racers kept complaining that it’s not as fast as my XYZ motor…..blah, blah, blah. Racing was fun and bit closer for some.

So I have been doing USGT at my local track for 2 seasons now. And have become comfortable with my car and driving ability, now how to go faster??
let me give you soMe details on my ride. First off it’s a X-ray T4 20’. Is on the alum flex chassis. It has the USGT motor and spec tires. Run hobbywing xr10 pro 120. It runs straight and I use a Sanwa MT44. My issue is it feels like it is dragging its butt around the track. My spur is 90 and running 52 tooth. So what can I do to make it run faster. Is it a setting on the transmitter. Or do I need to change settings in the ESC? If it’s the ESC is there somewhere that breaks it down in layman’s terms that I can understand how and what it impacts.
amy help from the group would be greatly appreciated.

Dragging means your car feels slower to other cars? It’s a spec motor on a blinky so the battery has a huge bearing on total power. That will be noticeable on larger tracks. If you are using a smaller battery you can’t necessarily use the same runout as the other guys you run with since the battery does less work. Try shortening the runout and concentrating on corner speed. If that fails buy or borrow a large battery and see if that is more to your liking. If you race inside most guys opt for sub 280 batteries to minimize rolling over.
i use Gen Ace 6000 130c hard pak, so I don’t think it’s the battery. Or maybe try a shorty, but everything I use is almost standard for battery pak at the track. I have not seen anyone run shorty packs in USGT.
the track is small but not to technical there is not a lot of straights to get a lot of top speed, so I know that passing I. Turns is mainly where we gain ground. I’m just trying to get the lead out so to speak.

Have Matt DG or Mike K take a look at your car next time you're there. I'm sure they'd be happy to give you some advice. Not sure how long they keep the on-road layout down, but track time is the most important thing you can invest in. Get there early to practice if you can, and try to stop in for practice during the week, if available.

Tim, the motors and esc are pretty straightforward in this class, especially at HT-SC (which is where I assume you are running). Make sure your esc is calibrated correctly and set to blinky mode. The only tuning option for the esc I would recommend is drag brake, try 5-7%. From there, I would focus on gearing. For St. Charles, I think I was running a ~4.3-4.5 FDR. I believe I had 99/42T spur/pinion. For setup, I ran the box T4'21 carpet setup from XRAY, and there wasn't really anything more I needed from the car. There was a tenth or two more to find in the setup, but it was good enough for me. Sauce w/SXT black for five minutes, and then wipe completely clean w/a clean towel a few minutes before your race.
