Also, when I first started running usgt, I was told it helps to sand down the middle ridge off the tire. Then when you set the car down, hold the car and hit the throttle a few times and run.
Don't know if you're running (outdoors) on asphalt, or (indoors) on carpet...but, most indoor carpet tracks don't allow sauce.

Indoor on black carpet. Both tracks I run on allow SXT 3.0.

Is this some sort of West Coast thing? All of the tracks that I am aware of in the mid west allows SXT 3.0.

Over here there's no sauce (like none ever, at all) in Off-Road, but in On-Road, it's pretty much universal standard (odorless is required however, in most places. Luckily.)

Definitely NOT a west coast thing. Here in SoCal, we run all sorts of tire additive. Only stipulation for indoors track which are non existent now but that required odorless. Outdoors, anything goes. Lol

That was a typo...sorry. It should have read "most carpet tracks...". I'll correct it now.

The tire puffing is why the droop gauge number is innacurate, and we use droop over ride height in VTA and USGT. the TC tires are belted so thier size stays pretty much, but the VTAs and USGT tires are not belted currently. If i have new tires at 65mm and u have old ones at 69mm, to get the same amount of droop over ride height, we will have 2 totally different gauge numbers. my rule of thumb is if your over 68mm ur close to needing new tires.

if u ever wonder why folks can get away with no glue its from having fresher tires.

ultimately, you can fight the aged tires, and make setup changes to compensate, but at the end of the day its a bandaid for the inevitable.

Everyone uses SXT 3.0 at the track. I just started using brake cleaner.

Just so I understand completely.....clean the tires with brake cleaner after every run. Then sauce them 5 min before the race and do a burnout on the carpet to get the excess sauce off them.
Am I leaving anything out? I've only used sauce on VTA tires. Never used brake cleaner on them. it took a race day or two before new vta tires would wear in.

Also, when I do sauce the front tires in USGT, am I only saucing the inner half of the tread or doing the entire tread across?

no, that is exactly what I do.

on usgt, I usually do about a quarter of an inch on the inside. On vta, I do the inside first two tread.

Didn't you ask other people at the track? Then, you could have fixed it at the spot instead of wasting track time.

To break-in the tires, I would sauce the whole thing front and rear.

I’ve have yet to see a carpet track that didn’t allow sauce. If you know of one ( or more) that don’t, could you please let us know? And what is there reasoning?

If you are intending to say they don’t allow paragon or anything like it, or costic cleaners that will stink up and give off toxic fumes indoors then yes I agree. I do know carpet tracks that limit tire sauce to SXT 3.0 or similar.

Where I raced, sauce on the carpet was banned.

Why? The venue we hired was carpeted, so we raced on it, kept it clean, and in good order.

So you raced in a non-permanent facility and used the normal office-type carpet that was on the floor there already? Well, in that case I can understand banning sauce, but that seems to be a rather special case, not the norm.

Isn't that gonna mess up the carpet if everyone does it?

Yeah, which is it.
Most usually have a separate carpet square to burn off the extra tire sauce.
