Never wearing out is a stretch, but you can make them last a long time.

The plating is going to react to the solder and O2 in the air, just at a slower rate. Keeping the tip clean, tinned, and at reasonable temps slows down the process.

Not sure it's posted in this thread, but in a pinch you can make soldering iron tops from solid copper wire. You can make custom shapes and what not. They work great.

How do I solder the ESC wires to the motor without touching the iron to the wire? There does not appear to be enough room under the 3 platforms to place the soldering iron.

Specifically I will be soldering to this motor.

Ypu solder to the outside... It looks like the silver areas are the solder pads, exposed and easy to get to.

To expand on what was said above, you just need to pre-tin the wire, and the terminal which looks to be done already. Then put a little tin on your iron, and touch the iron on top of the wire pressing down onto the terminal. The heat should flow with the solder on the iron, it'll heat the wire, then it'll heat the terminal.

I feel like this would be pretty bad QA fail.

in my opinion all the joints looks kinda questionable for professional product, but thing that stood out is it looks like flux residue was left on solder joints from 3 main wires.

Soldering is apparently getting worse. TO THE TOP OF THE THREAD!!!!

You are supposed to solder the wires to the TOP of the platforms, not underneath.
