Hi all! I bought some cars and a track to race with the kids and got really hooked myself. I read about this race in the Mini-Z world FB group and it sounded like a lot of fun so I thought I'd give it a try. I will try box stock to begin with and maybe try other classes later if I upgrade. The track is actually two Kyosho 48 piece 30 tracks which I think is similar to a mini 96 track? The mini 96 does not seem to be available here in Europe. I am new to this so might be a bit shaky at first.

One question about box stock: Is it 7T stock pinion only? Or can it be other brands like the PN pro match pinion? And can it be other pinions like 6 or 9 etc.?

Thanks!

Welcome to the competition! If your RCP tiles are 30x30cm, then they should be the same as the ones in the Mini-96 kit. On the pinion question, it must be 7t in Box Stock, but I don't think it has to be the stock pinion. I would expect a 7t pinion from other manufacturers to be fine. I'm not sure I could even tell them apart, but Jim is the leader of this challenge, so I will defer to his answer.

It took me many posts before I could post pictures, which we very frustrating. I look forward to running with you!

Default Preferred wheelbase

Is there a preferred wheelbase that people run in the Mini 96 Challenge? I have been running 94mm lately.

I'd say run whatever is most consistent. I'm running 90mm rear mount in Box Stock and 94mm mid mount in Stock. Some are running 98mm and 102mm. Do you have a Mini-96?

Thanks! Looking forward to racing with you all and hopefully improve with all the great knowledge around here!

Regarding 7T pinion I will wait for Jim's response. Reason I ask is that I tested a PN delrin 7T pinion and it was a lot quieter than the stock one.

for box stock it must be a 7t pinion 48p. As long as it is a 7t u can use any make that u want and it must be stock gear diff not a ball diff of the same tooth count

I'm not sure. You might get a quicker response if you post that question HERE. BTW, I've been racing with the guys at the HobbyTown in Richmond. You should check it out if you haven't already.

Look at this....I go on a sales trip and do not check in for a few days and there is all sorts of activity. Welcome to the new guys, excited that you are joining the fun.

On the Box Stock gearing, As long as you are using the stock .5MOD gear pitch I do not care who's pinion you are using as long as you do not go bigger than a 7T.

I am off to a trade show on Friday for a few days but hoping I can start running some laps next weekend.

Cheers,
Jim

Thanks!

I am still learning about all this stuff so not sure what .5MOD means. Is the PN pro match delrin pinion 7T in that category?
