Welcome to the home of the Mini-96 World Challenge.

The Mini-96 World Challenge is a virtual 1;28 scale time trial series that can be held anywhere there is a Mini-96 track. The idea is that you can run your cars in the comfort of you own home and compare your performance with others around the world. The hope is that we can build a community of like minded RC enthusiasts that enjoy the challenge of tuning and racing 1:28 scale cars and showing your performance and set-ups on the world stage. The idea is to progress the scale for both Newbies and Veterans alike.

Once a month a track layout, surface, and direction will be announced. Through out the month you post your time for the class you are running, if you run more then once in the same class please edit your original post so that you do not have multiple posts from the same participant every month, this is purely for book keeping purposes and keeping the information manageable. Discussions on set up and techniques are encouraged as are pictures of your cars.

We will score 6 different classes, Box Stock, Stock, Stock 86, Pro-Stock, and Open 2WD and Open 4WD. You can run as many or as few classes as you would like, you can run different classes on different days. The rules for the classes are below, for the time being these are the rules and no changes will be made. If over time a majority of the players would like to look at changing a rule we can discuss as a group.

We are hoping that you will find this an interesting and fun way to have competition even if you are not located near an established track.

With that said lets take a look at the rules:

Timing- Timing must be done with a devise where you can post "proof" of your run to the web, this can be done with something as simple as a smart devise app where you take a screen shot or a full on timing system and posting a generated excel sheet. I have been using "LapTracker" on my iPhone, there is a nominal fee for it but it works very well. I understand there are a couple Android apps that work as well though I have not tried them, one is called "Whoop Laps"and another is called "LapTrax". If any of you have another Android timing app that you are comfortable with I would be happy to post that as well. I am not affiliated with any of these apps BTW.

Race Format- The Race format is 75 laps which will lead to a, roughly, 6 min race. You cannot piece together parts of different races to make one race, it is either all 100 laps or nothing. On the first of every month the track configuration, surface. and direction will be posted. Below I have a picture of some tracks configurations that can be done with the standard Mini-96 kit, I also understand that you can make a lot of HFAY track that use two "Wide-L's" with the Mini-96 Track, I will need to investigate that.

Car Classes and Rules
Box Stock- 4AAA NiMhKyosho Chassis, OEM White End bell Motor none modified, bearings, 7T Pinion, front springs, T-Plate , Any Kyosho plastic motor mount that does not incorporate a disc dampener, 86-98MM Wheelbase, Kyosho Autoscale/White body Complete and unmodified, must use original wing, 20MM Wheels only. Aluminum T-Plate mounts are permissible on the chassis to increase durability of chassis that will see use in more then one class.
Stock 86- 4AAA NiMh Kyosho Chassis set up at 86MM, OEM or 70T brushed motor or 3500kv Brushless motor, Autoscale/White Body with no modifications, stock wing.
Stock- Any 4AAA Nimh Chassis , OEM or 70T brushed motor of 3500kv Brushless motor, Autoscale/White body.
Pro Stock-Any 4AAA Chassis , 48/50T Brushed motor of 5500kv brushless motor, Autoscale/White body.
Open 2WD-And Chassis, any voltage, any motor
Open 4WD-Any Chassis, any voltage, any motor

Posting Of your Race
In order for your race to count please use the following format and fill in all the information as well as the screen shot of your race information. You are also encouraged to post pictures of your cars. Races will only be counted if they are submitted before midnight EST (GMT-5hrs) of the last day of the month

Awesome
! I just got back from a trip for work. That’s why I didn’t think I could handle the particulars. Not to mention my limited knowledge on the subject. I just want to thank you for sorting it all out and organizing this. I’ll be running box stock, pro stock and 4wd unlimited. Hopefully I get time away from work to reconfigure my garage track. I’m set with the timer and just waiting on a new ready set and a part for my GLA. Thanks again.

I just got some parts for my GLA as well so it is up and running.

We are not hosting Easter this year and with the incoming weather we are getting here on the East coast over the weekend it seems like a perfect weekend to get some laps in. I currently have my LWB car at 94MM and set up as a Pro-Stock car but I have a spare PN70T so I can run that car as Stock as well with out to many changes. I am in a quandary about my second MR03 which is my SWB (90MM currently) car , I do want to run box stock but I also want to keep a SWB car since my 90MM chassis has proven to be fast and it is fairly easy to convert to 86MM, I also have not run my 991 GT3 or the incoming 996 GT3 bodies yet. I am guessing this is how Mini-Z peeps end up with so many chassis's...... I am seriously thinking about adding another MR03 RWD to the stable and just keep that as my Box Stock car.

Looking forward to getting some time sheets posted up.

Cheers,
Jim

This is exactly why... for me, when I prepare for events, I often like to have at least 2 options for each class. This past event, I had brought one spare car (my LM) which was the reserve car for both stock and superstock. I have always had a decent fleet, and the least amount of cars that I bring to a race is usually 5 or 6. When a car works well, you don't want to change it to try something else.

now that I am out of brushless cars to adapt, I need to start rebuilding brushed cars for my test cars as I cannot afford to buy moe brushless equipment.

Default Smooth Side

My track has been laid down for months with Plan A on the smooth side. I can’t participate for now but would love to in the future.

Alright, got a decent run in with both my Stock and Pro Stock cars. Doing 75 laps is a big difference from a 20 lap stint....my left hand cramped badly. Both cars felt great and were easy to drive. I geared up to an 11T on my stock car, the motor is a bit warmer but the drag brake feeling is all but gone. I am very happy with the 991 GT3 body, it runs really well and looks great.

Looking forward to seeing some more times posted.

Cheers,
Jim

Default Got the track ready.

Looks like I’ll be running box stock and 2wd super stock for now. I’ll try to get some times posted Wednesday or Thursday. I can’t post pics yet so I guess I’ll have to type in the results. Are bearings allowed in box stock class? I just tried out the new Mr03 I purchased just so I can have more than one car to run.

Bearings should be since most of the RTR come that way.

Finally got the GLA sorted. That was a huge lesson in "only change one thing at a time". I received the upper camber arms for the front and rear and installed them, and changed gearing as well and played with ride height. Over the last few days the car was pretty much undriveable, it was turning race times slower then my Pro-Stock car and just totally unpredictable. After fiddling with it a bunch with only slight improvements I decided to go back to a clean slate and build it to the manual and that resulted in a much better car. I played with ride height a bit, took some toe out of the front, and played with the diffs just trying different things and I have a MUCH better car now. Still not ultimately as fast as it has been but it is VERY easy to drive.

Cheers,
Jim
