I had this issue occasionally, but I now use the TRF large shim set and that stops the coning of the original kit shim.

Also I found that some of the larger o-rings (like the X-ray ones) could swell and lead to some issues if not replaced often.

One thing that really irritates me is that if you are trying to build a full aluminum gear diff, the most cost efficient method is to buy the plastic gear diff unit for $36 then buy the two aluminum housings for $27 and $28 each. Buying from scratch, the cheapest you can get a aluminum gear diff is $91.... WOW!

Wow, that is extremely expensive.....I guess it will depend on how well the aluminum parts hold up to the abuse.....

Yep, Tamiya has actually decided to do a global run of the kit. Also should be some more hop ups soon.

Wish it was the 420 being announced or something. Hop ups? Thought the 419xr is all decked out with parts out of box?

Well apart from the new cardans & diff.

They could really use some lower suspension mounts for the rear of the car or, better yet, totally revamp them and use an insert type mount like Xray and Associated do. Start them at a 4mm height and let us work our way up with spacers. I started running a solid block in the rear, flipped w/ 2.5mm spacers to get a 4.5mm pin height. Really helps lock down the rear when running these aggressive bodies like the Type-S. Just my opinion..

I use XB or XA usually. Tamiya has all the way down to XD in the one piece version.

so i just ordered a 419x i will probably go xr at some point. I am running in USGT and coming from a TB EVO 7 that i struggled with the crazy amount of grip it made on CRC black carpet. Anything i need to do for black carpet or any band aids i need to know about during the build up? also what is a good starting point for the car on black carpet?

For carpet i recommend the 419X-WS aluminium lower deck and the 1.7mm X-WS upper deck. But both hard to get...
