OK , for the guys that run their X1's outdoors, which chassis works best? 17 or 18? I want to build a dedicated outdoor car for medium grip asphalt.

Thanks

Based on observation the Roche's seem to perform well outdoor, anyone know why?

Where are you getting that observation? I've raced both the Roche and X1 on asphalt and they are pretty close. (edge in quality to the X1 and edge for the Roche in bang for buck)

The 18 you have the option of running a longer shock shaft so might be better when its bumpy. If you run a really low ride right, the '18 chassis or the Roche will help with minimizing any scrub. Otherwise, all the model years X1 handle pretty similarly (when running without swaybar).

I base my observation on running against Roche's LOL, Thanks for the tip on the 18, I'll look into picking one up.

The changes to the 18 make the X1 better than previous cars for asphalt. The long shock was adopted, along with the hanging side links so the edges wouldn't drag on the asphalt.

Another cool product from Fenix. Massive weight savings from going to a spool, so what better way to make legal weight by having all the weight down low. 36.5 grams versus the 12.5 grams of the aluminum rear pod. Can't wait to test it this weekend.

Well, what was the verdict?

I like it. Was a bit toooo planted with the weight of the gear diff too, but absolutely perfect with the spool setup. Don't have to add a mountain of lead on the car to get the weight up. Anyways, I won the race but it was a small turnout.

I need some new wings - any favorites out there? I'm thinking Montech 2017 front and ETS rear.

Thanks

Ok, so almost finished my rebuild (first edition X1) and
- battery question: Am I missing something or is it a pain in the ass to mount the battery? It's mounted inline at the moment and I need to detach the center shock and screw off the body post/shock holder to get it in or out. Or do you just leave the battery in and race with the same one each time? I have 3 batteries and planned to switch during charging times. Might try cross chassis otherwise.
- shock question: so I have rebuild the center shock and the side shock, both with 600cst as per the manual and I'm confused about the rebound thing.
- center shock: when i push up the shock shaft, I cannot push it up entirely (2-3mm left) and when I release it, it rebounds entirely in about a second. The manual doesn't state a stock setup number to try and changnig it as in the manual (loosen cap 2-3 turns, push up shaft and close again) doesn't really change the rebound (no extra oil comes out through the tiny hole). I didn't find any answers on rebound in this topic or in the f1 tuning topic. How do you guys set it? Youtube is not helping as I'm finding things like dead shocks, but I won't be running on carpet.
- side shock: when I push or pull the shock shaft and then release, it stays where it is. Is this how it's supposed to work considering it pulls/pushes sideways on the car the whole time?
(will be running on asphalt)

Stinj - You need to bleed more oil out of your center shock if you can't compress it fully as you said, side shock sounds like it is OK
I don't run the inline battery, I'm no help on that

You can leave the battery in and run all day on it.
