Without starting a debate, what 17.5 motors are most of you running this season? Most of the guys I practice and race with run Trinity Monster Max Certified Plus 1 cell motors. Is that generally what the fast guys run?

The size of your track could matter in this. On smaller tracks the performance difference between some of the motors isn't as big. But, if you are on a larger track, my understanding is the trinity is the motor to have. I run a TSR v2 the one however and it is great. Definitely faster than my Fantom V3r. Don't get me wrong, I love the V3r in my TC, but for 1/12, I would look elsewhere.

I wasn't going to say what I have, but, since you both have mentioned it.... I have Fantom V3R Team Works Plus motors. Like you said, it is a wicked motor, and in my TC it is incredibly quick..
In my 1/12.. It is still fantastic.. I'm as quick as anyone else down the straight, but there is just something lacking.. I cant even put my finger on what it is.. everyone I ask or practice with is running the trinity motors and they swear by them.. Before I buy one and try it out I wanted to get some impressions from you guys.

The first thing I would try is to switch out the aluminum motor and timing screws for the steel screws. This may help the lackluster feeling the V3r has on the infield. But if you are competitive, let's face it; your mind will never be at ease until you "know" the motor isn't the issue. If everyone else is running the trinity, that would be what I would get. And this is coming from a trinity hater, hence why I have a TSR.

Hmm, good point on the hardware. I am going to change that out and test again. You know exactly what I am talking about. The car just feels blah out of the corners. It isn't getting hot (about 125 with temp gun).

I haven’t heard any good reviews of the fantom V3s for any 1s racing. Guys that tried them switched over to trinity, R1, or TSR. Not trying to bust your bubble but I’d use that motor in 2s and just get a different motor for competitive 1/12.

My Fantom V2R 17.5 same type story. Don't work for 1/12 racing but put it in touring car and it is up there and the car is fast.

I have dyno'd many tsr 17.5 v2 motors and some trinity monster max 17.5.
2 totally different motors on the dyno.
Tsr has very long power band and lots of rpm, where the trinity has tons of low end tq and hp.
The gearing between the 2 are huge. Tsr I was running 77-79mm roll out. Where the trinity was 99-102mm roll out.

Thinking about picking up a mod motor for fun/practice (4.5-6.5?), but I don't really want to go back to multiple compounds... Has anyone tried spec tires on black carpet with a mod motor?
