When it's completely hooked up, sensor cord and all, set throttle and brake epa both to maximum, then you're ready to setup the esc to the radio.
Hold little button on switch as you turn it on.
It'll beep.
Keep throttle at neutral, push little button on switch.
It'll beep couple times.
Pull full throttle and hold it, and push little red button on switch.
It'll beep another couple times.
Push full brake and hold it, push little red button on switch.
It'll beep more.
Wait a few seconds, and you are done. It is programmed. If you want any more programming than that, you should get the program box and tune it with that.
Hope that helps you out, they are great esc's
If stuff isn't working, make sure all your wires are properly connected, nothing backwards, no solder blobs on the motor tabs. Good luck

Hi guys, do you know any compatibility issue with trackstar gen2 and sanwa tx-rx? A friend can't get it to work with Mt4s, he can't enter the calibration mode, so Hk replaced the esc with a new one, but some issue.
Opinions?

Try in systems throttle type make sure it's on 50/50 not 70/30

I've read most of the posts in this section and I've seen it asked several times, but is there a different programming option out there for the 120a Gen II ESC? The Multi-function Smart Box is only available in Singapore and is back ordered. Can I use a different box, Hobbywing, SkyRC, and how? Thanks....

Hi
I have a problem with my trackstar smart programing box, esc gen ii 120a and a trackstar 10.5t brushless motor.
i have this combo on my trf417 and a tamiya tt02 type s.
I usually connect the programing box to the esc, to make some setup changes, but when i go to Motor Timing, it says "push to start", so i do it and then it says " sending to esc, please wait", the esc flashes once green and the red, and the time goes on and nothing happends.
i have tried taking the can timing to the minimium value, 0 and the maximium but i can not set up the motor timing.
Also i have the boost timing and the turbo timing just stock, i do not use them
I apreciate your help with this problem, i have wrote to HobbyKing and they already sent me a new smart box telling me that was the problem; i have tried this procedure with 2 or 3 smart boxes and the same happends.
Thanks for your help

it's for check the timing on your motor
connect the program box on your speedo
connect the battery
power on
and push the button on the smart box
your motor run (don't use pinion) and the program check the timing motor
if you want to change the value for timing it's boost timing and turbo timing select the value in function of your motor

Is it a buggy? What motor? I've run em both ways and not had a problem. Never ran a big motor without it though, so I can't tell you how that works out.

If the ESC isn't getting hot, then no need for the fan. Not that particular ESC, but in general. My two 2WD mod SCTs both have 120A ESCs, one an X-Car and the other a TrackStar gen2. Neither necessarily needs the fan.

Looks like several people here are having a problem connecting 120A ESC to the programming box. This is a firmware issue - the two are no longer compatible and HK has not corrected the issue. Currently the only way to adjust the settings in the ESC is to connect using the USB port (on the programming box) to a PC and the 'Software V2.06 OK' version.
I really hope HK fixes this issue soon. These ESC's are great otherwise.

Anyone had any success to updating the firmware?
Brought the skylink, hook it up to the buggy, run the program off hobbykings website & get “esc failed”
(V1.0) link doesn’t work & just keep geting esc failed on the V2.0 ok.
Do do I need to disable me firewall? Anti virus?
Tried multiple USB ports & still the same

So after hours of stuffing around, Getting frustrated etc I finally got over the operator error.
My old escs programed through the trx cable, but this one connects through the port at the top which I always thought was the fan port?
Once i I worked that out it’s connecting to the program card, skylink working aswell. Even came up a firmware flash to do 👍🏽
