The Hobbywing as Spec everything is not the answer to every cost saving motor problem, and to assign every profit margin to only one company surely violates anti trust laws or at least the principles of free market enterprise, not to mention the systematic killing of innovation, etc.... Motor Communism should not rule in all classes or else you'll alienate a real big percentage of the industry.....Sure , a spec class should be available but that should not be all that's available ! Roar Rules are there for every company out there, not just Hobbywing ! Look at what happened to Novak. Imagine if Novak had their motors as Spec for every class: what a disaster that would have been.....You want cost cutting? Stop buying the new motor of the week, learn setup, and practice until you can TQ and win.....
you are right...yep I said it...I dont agree with Bert all the time but he is right.
The issue when we did have just one motor still raised a fuss cause the motors were not all the same per say...and believe me when I tell you that the lock time motors are not either. So we would be going over to a worst situation.
The new rules for ROAR 25.5 motors is about as good as it gets...still need fine adjustments, but about spot on...I havent seen or heard anybody say I got beat cause he was running the Motiv, or he out HP me with the Trinity.
The chance to pick your brand with the 25.5's and not worry about the motor of the month has been proven. Its the #1 thing in VTA.and F1...and with pre-mount tires/rims OMG...its like birthday cake with ice cream

Thanks Myron .... I would also like to point out that I would like all the current motor companies to thrive and not tank like Novak did, so we can all enjoy this great hobby. I also know that lots of companies invested bigtime in research that probably put their products on top, and they should not be penalized through the outright cancellation of the classes where they use to dominate. That's just a recipe for endless lawsuits.... Cheers....
You can have the same tire, motor ,battery ,FDR, and that is not going to make everything even.
The Chassis and your setup are the very important. ( and Driving
)
To make a spec class work you would have to One chassis for the spec class too.

Not that they will be changing the rules at this point, but if they had known it was going to be so successful, they could have said that only 10 year old chassis are legal or something like that. As I understand it, that was the original goal was to get a class where you could use your old stuff rather than have it sit around. That being said, I think Myron Kinnard did pretty well on a national level with a TC4 not too long ago.

This thread is getting off topic so I will try to get things back on track.
TC3's can still be raced competitively in VTA. Just need the proper set-up and a clean drive. I race mine along with another guy at my local track and we both usually run near the front if not at the front against plenty of big dollar chassis. This is against some pretty strong competition too. By strong, I mean guys that are routinely in the A and B mains at the big races.

I raced my TC3 at the 2017 Southern Nationals in VTA. I mainly went to have fun (whch I did) and really didn't put a lot of effort into my setup or driving. Ended up finishing 5th in the B-main (got as high as 3rd in the main). My car weighed 1540 grams, so it was a bit on the heavy side. I'm confident that with a bit more work on setup and more time racing on black carpet, I could have made the A-main.
Based on over-all qualifying times, I was part of a group of about 8 racers that all "could have been" in the a-main if the racing wasn't so close. I'm sure each racer has an excuse why they didn't make the A-main, but mine isn't because the TC3 is too old to be competitive. The car handled fine, was good down the straights, and better than some through the twisty bits.
My TC3 is competitive because i accept what it is and just try to drive the wheels off of it.
I just watched the video of the B-main for the first time today. I started 9th, worked my way up to 5th on the 1st lap, got taken out on the 2nd lap and fell back to 9th, worked my way back up to 5th in a few laps, then 4th, then 3rd. Made a minor mistake and gave up 3rd, then another mistake and gave up 4th to fall back to fifth. Was chasing down 4th towards the end of the race but made too many little mistakes and got caught at the line on the buzzer to finish 5th.
Overall a decent race considering were I started in the field.
Here is a link to the video of the race. My car looks like a white car (even though it was white/green).

Anybody here using the thickest swaybars front and rear ?
They seem to work great in my tc4 on crc carpet vs the softer black bars that made me lose alot of time in the corners, letting the chassis drag, etc.....

That's a good point. I had not thought about it that way. If you have to go out to find a old chassis, and you are new, that would be tough. You might not know what to look for.
One class I always thought would be fun would be the $500 class. The rules would be simple, your car rolling on the racetrack cannot cost more than $500 (exception for radio and personal transponder) with older chassis being valued at their blowout price, but not less than $200. So $300 left for motor, esc, body, battery, servo, tires, and upgrades.
I would do it like the 24 Hours de Lemons. Get a judge who knows about RC cars, have him give each car a glance over and assign "bullshit points." Every $10 over $500 they think you spent on your car they get to dock you a lap!

Of course, like 24 Hours de Lemons, if you can provide receipts or documentation showing what you paid for your equipment and you paid a reasonable market value for them (none of this $10 for a lightly used Awesomatix) you can race that car without bullshit points. Or if it is clearly under $500, like a 3Racing Sakura full of hobbywing gear. Also, the judge would be encouraged to be very much subject to bribery:
Here are some bribe ideas straight from the 24 Hours of Lemons website:
Crown Royal whiskey, Patron tequila, Slim Jims, beer, the opportunity to leer at a comely bikini-clad Camaro racer, cash, and- perhaps best of all- steaks and shrimp cocktails from a mullet-clad Mustang team that rolled the grill right up to the BS Inspection area.
