Depending on the class, you will probably need to change gearing to get the final drive ratio around 4 or lower. Mine is set up for USGT and I run the optional gear adapter that accepts other spurs and also use the Yeah Racing motor mount.

Fan on the motor is usually a good thing, especially when you are running really tall gears.

First just want to get the feel of the speed. Then when I race. Will get the gearing down further. Really want to only use factory racing parts. Nothing yeah racing only my ti screws!

Hi All,
I have not run Silver Can in ages. I am setting up a TT-02 to get my 5 year old son racing. I'll start with the stock gearing, but if he manages to not crash much, can anyone recommend a gear ratio for the torque tuned motor? Do I just drop it all the way down, 5.74?
Thanks,
Jose

With the standard motor mount you can get 5.74 using the high speed gear set, 29T pinion and 64T spur

I get you it lol

The yeah racing motor mount is the only non Tamiya part I have on any of my Tamiya cars

The Tamiya mount has fixed holes the yeah is adjustable. That's the benefit. Disadvantage is it's not legal for TCS races

I JUST SCORED!

I've been thinking of making the updates to my standard TT02 to convert it to a Type S (carbon uprights, suspension mount kit, new a-arms, castors and bearing carriers, etc). All told I was looking at close to 150 bucks. I was poking around Ebay and found a store front that looks like they part out Tamiya kits. I was able to snag the entire B bag with almost all the parts I need for 30 bucks shipped from UK to Seattle. ALl I need is the a-arms and rear bearing carriers now. What went from another 150 bucks on a 100 dollar car is now about 65!

Could you also write the part numbers, please? I'm interested in the convertion but don't know all the parts it needs and a kit is quite expensive

I set my TT02 up for my 10 yr old son for this year's season. He ran the TT02 stock (silver can torque tuned motor and stock gearing) for 2 full practice sessions. He did really well w/ minimal crashing, -so I upped the speed a bit by going to the high speed gear set above. The car really hauls now and is plenty fast. He did get one practice session in w/ the latest setup and still did well and the extra speed made him happy. -but of course the new issue is keeping grip around hard turns. ...he's learning that he has to ease in and throttle out.

Nice to hear your son is having fun. I think TT02 is a great chassis to start with and it has a lot of hopups that let you improve it.

Super cool. I'm almost done with the build and then we'll see if my boy can even make it 1 lap without breaking it. Curious about the tires, do people run them with or without inserts? I'm just going to have him run the stock tires to prep him for TCS. I'll do a little searching too and see what I find.

You must check if the rules allow the use of inserts. I bought the RTR kit last summer (I'm new to rc and this was my first car) and it came without inserts but tires were already glued. They don't last long without insert because the inner part wears faster than having inserts. I don't know for sure if even grip changes, but I think so

I've heard that shimming some steering components on the TT02 can get rid of slop. Can someone who's done this post a picture/description of how this is done? Are any of the aftermarket aluminum steering parts worth it? Any help would be appreciated.

I set up my TT02 for my son to run in our novice class. So I am treating it like a TC car, -he is going to run racing slicks (I have Jaco's, Muchmore and Sweeps in various temperature ratings). I am also running my TT02 pretty much stock, it does have the upgraded Tamiya aluminum parts (steering assembly, shaft and shaft joints and the aluminum motor mount). Otherwise its the stock TT02 Drift S setup (although I didn't setup for drift).
