First thing I would recommend is ball bearings. Second thing I would recommend is some Tamiya S-grip tires. The rest is up to you and how you intend on using the mini.

So what do you guys do with the unused plastic bushings? I have a whole jar of them

Wish I had this jar back in the early 80's when I had no money to buy bearings.

Interesting thing about running laps last night - the track was so incredibly grooved in, I was running clean tires with no sauce at all. Even with glued sidewalls and first row of tread, traction roll was present on turn one, at the end of the straight. I'm impressed!
Our local track just installed the new crc rug and after a three day event traction was insane, so much so that EVERY class had ca on their front tires and even the sedans and 1/12th scales were still occasionally traction rolling. I had read about how the guys were handing the rug in Cleveland so I refrained from saucing and just cleaned on occasion during practice and ran dirty during the quals. The car felt extremely loose at first but quickly came in and drove great.
I also figured out my wheel hop issue, too low of a ride height. I raised ride height from 4 to 5mm for the event and problem solved. Still curious about this one as I've seen minis run four and lower with no hop but that was the only change I made over the weekend?

Some guys actually use them in lower speed vehicles like trail rigs. Plastic bushings don't mind getting wet.

Where do you plan on running your M05? -Parking lot fun, or competitive racing?
Also, have you considered the M05 VII?

tire choice as well as setup recommendations will be different depending on your intended use.

1) Stiffer diff (check out how to do the MR diff aka monkeyracing diff), it is very cheap and easy to do.
2) Oil dampers (Tamiya CVA super mini #50746) will work, with yellow short springs front, red short springs rear.

My kid drives this M05 and he is having a ball. GL
Great have to take time to read this whole thread!

Nice little track. Now we got something to base a setup on. What type of motor are you going to run? My setup is based on the HPRT setup, but a slightly stiffer suspension and harder tires (M-grip) because of the unrestricted motor rule where I currently am.

Mine are almost slicks.

http://www.rctech.net/forum/members/...-front-bar.jpg

Made a custom stabilizer for my SabreFD Mini.
The rear bar is from a M05.

Thing is finally dialed in after trying 4 different springs and these bars today after hours of trial and error last weekend.

Type A slicks on the front with S Grips on the rear worked great for me on carpet.

That is the go-to setup for the M06 on high grip carpet.

For M05, use S-grips all around.

If your car is hopping when you lower it, then your spring preload is too high... I prefer running zero preload... You'll probably need to lengthen your shocks...
My M03.2 (BERT edition) also used to hop, until I reduced my preloads....
