Mizchief; the esc won't hold power on so my bet is that your receiver "fail safe" setting is throttle input. This is often set when the receiver is bound to the transmitter. A quick look at the Rx8's LED tree would have likely shown a single led or even two when powered on indicating the signal from the receiver was indeed giving the esc the go ahead to give power.

Some radios after a few years even get some "wander" in the pontentiometer pot which can lead to this condition as well. Top end radios will have a "monitor" screen where you can see the raw data/voltage bounce around.

This go around with the buggy I squirted some expanding foam between the tray and chasis to give a little more shock proofing.

Common "word on the street" thing to do was get that Kyosho mounting gel stuff. From what I recall of the RX8 Gen 1 days, that was something that really seemed to help a lot to cushion the esc on landings.

One of my rx8 gen 2 went dead after landing the first jump of a race day, I had recently removed the back cover and blown out some dirt. Change battery and checked switch and nothing. Pulled the sensor wire and it fired up but 1,2 6,7. I tried it without the motor soldered and it booted ok. Soldered the motor up again and 1,2 6,7. Lifted the A phase and it booted. I then tried another motor and it was the same. Another rx8 gen 2 works fine with this motor. Hotwire connects ok. Any combination of phases other than a boots up ok.

Anything else I can do before sending it in?

Also if I lift a phase, boot it, then solder it. It works fine until I shut it off again

No, your testing shows the esc is at fault here.

Cool Tekin Rx8G2 Issue..

Hi everyone, I have some ESC problems and I was hoping you could help me out! I have a Rx8 Gen2 installed in my MIP SCTE. During a qualifier this weekend, it started to feel really sluggish, and the brakes were very poor. Being that I was running it at the time, it couldn't be a trim issue and whatnot. Once I pulled it off I temped it and it was running at 102°F, normal, not too bad. I took the speedo out and replaced it to finish my day with another esc. The motor is fine, I checked it with another speedo, esc however is not. The lights on the board light up while I pull the throttle, but it is not sending any power to the motor connected to it. It mostly happens in sensored mode, and sometimes sensorless. Is this an issue that I can fix? Or is it something I could send to Tekin? Thanks in advance!

I just powered up my tekin rx8 gen2. I don't have throttle. I have my esc plugged into ch2 on my airtronics rx472. Am I doing something wrong? I have bound everything correctly. My steering servo is working. Is there something in my radio that I need to adjust? I am using an m12s. All the lights are blinking on the esc. Sorry for my ignorance if this is covered already. Thanks for any help.
Eric

Edit: I figured it out.

Does anyone know where the connector for the Gen2 fan can be purchased?

I've got 8 fans that have the older Gen1 connector, and I'd hate to just throw them away. I know it's probably not a part that Tekin sells separately, but I'm sure there's an electronics supplier somewhere that has them. I just don't know what type of plug it is.

As an alternative, if anyone has a few dead fans that they could cut the wires off of and mail to me, I'd appreciate it. I don't need the whole fan, just the connector, and maybe an inch of wire so I have something to grab on when I'm removing the pins. All it'll cost is the price of a stamp.

I don't remember what they are called. I have a couple at home with the pins. If I remember correctly they are about 25¢ with the housing and pins. I can let you know what they are once I'm back from vacation

Yep, found them on here..... http://www.hansenhobbies.com/product...ors/200mm_1x3/

Unfortunately, the pins are also different on the Gen1 vs. Gen2 fans, so I'd have to get new pins, and crimping tool to put them on.

By the time it's all said and done, I'd spend more money than it's worth.....looks like I'll be buying some new fans.

I've got one or two that are better than the original with the correct terminals I'd sell. What's the difference between them? I only have a RX8 Gen 2 but didn't know there was a difference. I'll sell you one pre made brand new fan with the plug and send a couple pins and connectors with for a reasonable price if you're interested.

The Gen1 uses a white, latching plug. The Gen2 uses a micro receiver plug, since this is also where the Hotwire plugs in.

Here are a couple of screen shots....

Since you have the plugs and connectors, would you feel like trading a few? I thought I had 8, but it's only 6, and two of those have been used. Of the 4 new fans, there are three Tekin branded, and one off-brand. I could send you all 4 of those, and you just send me 3 with the correct plug. The extra would be "payment" for installing the connector.

Been there. Only lasts 1-2 batteries then the "sticky" separates from the gel.
