visiting back to my body post. i ran 17.5 1/12th against a bunch of 13.5 1/12th yesterday -- qualifying 3rd i might add in a 6-7 car field -- at rc car world. my package was-
roche rc rapide p12 w/ transverse battery.
lrp flow works + tq cells booster, ko propo rsx12, sanwa m12s and rx481.
motiv 1s battery & 17.5 motor (light rotor).
tires BSR team purple front, BSR blue rears (same set, 2nd weeked on them, hardly any wear). 0.9mm split. 39.6 front, 40.5 rear (they started about 0.3mm higher last week)

i ran three bodies - crc/blackart lola (q2), amr (q3) and strakka (main). the lola felt great up front but at the 2m left mark the car was super loose and all i could do was hang on. amr had a solid/stable feel with no loss of hot lap, and was constant the whole run. even more importantly, the amr allowed me to dice with the 13.5 cars and gave me the confidence to put the car wherever i wanted to. in the main, with the strakka, we were pretty strung out w/o a lot of mixing it up, but in the last 1.5m of the run the car got a bit free, not as much as the lola, but no where as stable as the amr.

i know what body i'll be running at the halloween classic now. final tests planned for this upcoming weekend in middle river with 17.5 and 13.5. if anything changes ill post back, but otherwise ill finally be able run some race painted bodies i had from my prior speedmerchant days...

btw- just saw the electronic results, and they confirm my feelings. top 15 times were much much better w/ the amr as compared to hot lap. hot laps improved as the track got better all day -- but they are all within 0.04s. now -- to start some tuning for the amr!

Class is a blast to drive!

Does anyone know if amain has any 1/12 tires that are similar to:
Jaco black fronts/yellow rears?

Be careful if grip is insane getting too stuck to the AMR (ha, puns). But in all honesty the AMR is really good in a ton of situations but then when grip gets over the top it's simply not as fast in many cases in 17.5. On ultra high bite I've never been able to go as fast with the AMR as a Strakka or R8. However, until the bite gets insane this isn't the case.

Just something to consider.

Cool how much is enough?

I still remember well overhearing a tidbit of racing and setup advice offered by David Spachett back in the day when he was world champion and virtually untouchable in 1/12th scale. At the time he said something to the effect that "there is no such thing as as having too much traction". Admittedly, that advice was given many years ago while we were running dramatically different tires, heavy nicad battery packs, and modified brushed motors. Even so, until such time as my lipo car flips or stalls in the corners, I'm still inclined to agree with Mr. Spachett's line of thinking. His logic was (and it should still be true) that rolling around the corner is always going to be faster that sliding thru it.

Just so long as it's not traction rolling around the corner

Default Reedy 1/12 Race of Champions 2016

Hello all. Not sure if many of you will have seen, but in January 2016 there's going to be a Reedy Race of Champions for 1/12 scale in the UK!

Registration for the open (10.5 blinky speedo) class is now available exclusively via;

http://www.britishradiocarassociation.co.uk/reedyentry

You will not be required to pay your entry fee at this stage; that will come in a months time once the 70 open class drivers have been drawn.

If you are on the invitational drivers list and would like to participate, please email [email protected] to confirm your place if you have not done so already.

More info at www.reedyrace.com

I would agree except that he always ran mod 12th scale. With spec racing you are looking for any and all advantages you can find be it reduced rolling resistance or reduced drag on the body. The part i agree with is avoid sliding. Finding more steering by making the rear of the car loose or slide in a corner is not the answer in spec racing.

Edward,
We have been talking about mounting our own donuts here at the track and we can't seem to find the places where they come out cheaper than say a company like Xenon sells the JFTs for. Do you know if in Japan it is cheaper to mount your own there or to buy premounts? I mean, we already true them down as it is, so a big donut won't scare us off.

I've found it's cheaper to mount your own doughnuts. I personally run Team Bomber foam tires. The "Silver" compound is a great compound to start off with.

I mounted my tires as well by using what we called the yellow glue. But when the tires are down to very thin and I think the tire sauce is too aggressive. I have to use the ca glue to patch it. In fact, it doesn't last well. I almost had to path the whole tire.
After that, I switched to use the ca to glue the donut in the beginning instead.

Do you guys have this experience?

Not too bad, what about a wheel source for us non-yokomo folks.
