Official Tekin RX8 GEN2 ESC Thread
#3031
Hello, this is my first post in here. I was wondering if someone can tell me if using a viper vf8 (1900kv) motor will work good with the RX8 G2? or if they aren't compatible. I am pretty sure they are compatible but I just wanted to ask and be positive. Also, I am running this in either my tekno et48 truggyor the tekno eb48 buggy. What pinion should I start with for each of those 3 options?

The ET gears slightly different. Both the ET48 and EB48/EB48.3 forum threads here on Tech should have gearing info in post 1 of them as well.

I have a Tekin 1900 and I run 17 (smaller track). 17-19 is usuaully the range.
For the ET48, Tekno recommends 15t for a 1900. I run a 2050 in mine and I run a 14t.

So you need to do a few extra steps here.
First you need to uninstall the Hotwire via your "Add/remove" programs. Then you need to check out your Youtube channel and watch the "Vista How to" on how to remove the "hidden" file. Once you delete the hidden file, you can reboot and then go download the latest Hotwire and install it.
This will get you the latest Hotwire which should be 10.3.0
Your system is holding onto an old data base version that is preventing your Hotwire from truly updating.

Should I be using 10 or 12awg wire for wiring up my RX8 to my 8th scale motor and also the battery? I was going to use 12 then I saw that my batteries have 10awg. Should I just stick with 10 so they are all the same?
Looking at Tower I guess Tekin doesn't even have 10awg wire? 12 is thickest looks like. So I guess when you get a new RX8 it comes with 12awg?

Side Note:
I just looked at the hobby wing esc on my other buggy and that has 10awg as well. Then I looked at the Castle wires I have which are 10awg and those seem smaller than the other wires that are 10awg. Not sure why that is... maybe the insulation is thinner or something making it look smaller.

12awg is fine for off-road. we are turning our current limiters down. IF the wire were getting hot (ie unsoldering from the post) then you would probably go up in wire size.
I'm sure on road guys are using the largest wire they can to get the most current, but in off road you don't need it.

Yes its completely fine. The current flow in the circuit will just be limited when it comes to the 12 awg because it has higher resistance. My brother bought some turnigy batteries from hobby king and they came with 8 awg. Getting those to fit into traxxas connectors was a pain.

I'm using 10awg on my RX8 Gen2, it is a pain to get them onto the post, because the U channel is too small. I fan the wire out & squeeze them w/pliers, but it is still tricky. I should note, I may not have the greatest soldering skills. lol

Hi,
When I am running my temp are close to max all the time. I usually measure 74-78 degrees on my T8 and around 50 degrees on esc. Some time I actually pass 80 degrees on T8 and that is not ok.
I gear 15/46 at the moment but will try gear up to 16/46 to see.
What else can I change with Hotwire to reduce temps? What is maximum temp esc can handle?
I use software version 250
Drag brake: off
Current limit: 95
Push control: 5
The rest is defualt.
Thanks in advance
