Revo Brushless Conversion Project
#1
Hello,
Just thought I'd share my latest project truck. I've done a couple conversions using the motor as forward, brake and reverse by stripping the extra gears and locking the tranny into 2nd gear. That works pretty good but I always wanted to do one leaving the truck as stock as possible. So here it is...

I have retained the mechanical servo operated brakes, the servo operated reverse with the optidrive module and the tranny is totally stock including the 2nd gear shifting.

I removed the fuel tank and built a mount plate for the esc.
The plate is the shape of the tank seam including the grommet locations.
That allows me to use clips and stock bushings for assembly.

I'm a machinist so I built a lipo mount that bolts on top of the rear shock tower. The rear part slides into the body posts.

For now, I'm using a Viper Copperhead 4500 combo with an SMC 7200 lipo.
Runs great! I also have it geared low...14 tooth, to keep from putting excessive strain on the combo. The temps were mid 70's the other day after running out a full lipo. To be fair, the outdoor temps were mid 50's.
I have room for an 1/8th scale system as long as I stay with no more than a 3 cell lipo. (SMC has a 3 cell that is almost the same size as a large 2 cell).

I still want to install the Tekno adapter shaft and try out the clutchbell setup.
I have all the parts, just haven't got around to changing it yet...once I started driving it, it's been tough to stop...lol

Anyway, that's about it for now.
Thanks for looking!!

Thank you and I did not build that mount. It is available from Integy although I do have some face plates that have the motor section offset about 3/16" of an inch to allow an 1/8th scale motor to mount up without interference.

Nice to see a different take on conversions, nice job. The 2 speed of the trans does help temps as the load on the motor is decreased while in 1st. Never tried the electro clutch myself, don't know if I could get used to being able to rev up an electric motor before the clutch engaged.

Exactly!! I can't decide whether to open up 40 dollars worth of parts just to try the clutch system. It seems to works pretty sweet as is...
I would be very interested in hearing from someone who has the clutchbell setup.
Does anyone out there have any input on that setup?

I can't tell for sure....did you use the clutch or just a pinion on your motor? I have another revo with a Mamba on 4s steriods too. I have it shut down to 60% on power just to keep from stripping the drive train. It's crazy Fast!

its just the pinion, the trans has the traxxas forward only kit (I modified to 2nd gear only and locked it for motor reverse)), The drivetrain is the same 8 year old parts that came with the truck as a 2.5r 8 years ago.
The only thing I've had to replace is the rear diff with a e-revo diff from trying standing backflips.

This is a little off topic but I thought someone might get some use out of this.
I head south to Panama City Beach each fall and I've been trying to sand-proof my Revo...
Here are some pics.

So what do ya think that material is?
Panty hose!....a buck fifty.
Pick your color...stretch the waist band over and tie a loose knot. Slide it down as close as possible and tighten. Snip off the legs. I believe it will work very well
