I talked to Kevin at Trinity today and they are sending me another sensor board. I tried to use the motor again today, it worked for a second, although not that powerful, then it cogged down to not working at all within 45 seconds. Very very odd.

Sensor boards do that... there is a certain % of lemon boards. No biggy. I had one that just flat out stopped working after 1 run, and trinity sent me 3 replacements, was at my door in like 2 days. Great CS

I bought one of these motors the day they came out. It's still sitting in the box next to my brand new mid motor serpent. I need to build my car, work is so dam tiring. The few guys I've seen run the motor say it's faster then d3.5. I've only heard good news about the d4. Sorry to hear the your motor breaking down. I've always had good luck with trinity motors. I fried 2 shuur speed motor last year racing stock buggy.

Zero on the D4 is very close to true zero. That's why the timing numbers go up very high. The kill shot also has the same setup.

Finally got some track time with the D4 today. I must say its very impressive! It runs extremely cool. My normal gearing for my Kill Shot is 27/70 and usually comes off the track at 160ish. Well the D4 with that gearing came off at 130 so I went up 2 teeth and still barely broke 150. The motor has a lot of torque like the old d3.5 did, maybe even more. I did run it with the Teal 12.5 rotor shimmed .5mm off the hall sensors. Timing was around 56 to get a 10amp draw using only the drive train,no wheels. I think I can get more power out of it still with some more testing. Great job Trinity!

Can you explain the shimming a little bit more? How do you know how much to shim the rotor?

I have a couple pieces of lexan that vary in thickness from .5mm-1mm. When you set the rotor in the rear endbell you will see the gap between the rotor and the 3 hall sensors on the sensor board. I shim the rotor and check the size of the gap with the lexan pieces.

Absolutely. I think the Purple rotors are better suited for onroad and the Teal 12.5 is best for offroad imo.
