should I gear up and then take some throttle out with d/r? I am running a 17t pinion and the motor was only temping about 115. I wanted to try going bigger but the guys I race with thought that adding gear and making it faster wouldn't be a good idea. it would take some of the torque away right?
thanks

First thing to do here is a factory reset on the unit, then a radio calibration, then test it.
DON'T change any settings just yet. 9 times out of 10 a new user sets a setting incorrectly and causes erratic operation. So test it for few minutes on a charged pack, you won't be anywhere near LVC in say 5 minutes so see how long it runs. If it makes the 5 without issue, go back and one at a time verify your settings, etc.

Can you elaborate a little here? Are there some settings that new users should leave alone versus others? I've raced nitro for many years, and electric back in the mid-eighties, but I'm a bit behind the knowledge curve with newer brushless ESC's / motors.
I recently picked up an RX8 for my son's SCTE, and now one for the MBX7 ECO I'm going to start running. A few posts back, you mentioned that the default setup isn't super-smooth. What settings would you suggest to get a smooth power delivery? The only thing I changed on my son's ESC was to drop the CL down, and limit EPA with the radio until he got used to it (he's up to full speed now).
I'll be running my first race the with ECO this coming weekend, and I'd really like to know what I should be looking for, and what setting changes to make beforehand.

Randy, this may have gotten buried in the newer posts, and you missed it...I spoke with Lutz this week, and got his recommendations, but I'd also like to hear your suggestions. Thx....

I'm looking to order a rx8 gen 2 from tower, but they are out of stock, and I want to use my super saver codes. So I was curious if anyone would be interested in a tekin t8 motor if I ordered the combo? I was thinking $120, if interested just pm me please.

@ Randy: for some reason I didn't have a feedback about my esc replacement by using your email adress so please let me know what we can do, I just sent you an email back and hope to hear from you soon, thanks

I hope this hasn't been asked and answered....
I'm trying to set up my RX8 with hotwire. I'm running it off my android, because I have a macbook (Just got rid of my PC a month ago...).
It all seems simple enough once I got it to connect, but I got an error message saying that the firmware on my ESC is not compatible with the version of Hotwire I download.
So since I don't have a PC, is there a way to do a firmware upgrade through my android? The app told me to use a PC, and I don't see an option to update firmware from my android. It seems like an obvious feature to include.
Just wondering. I can probably borrow the use of a friend's computer at some point, but I'd like to be able to "just" do it myself, ya' know?
(btw RX8 and pro4 hd 4300 rocks. I spent last summer trying to get my truck under control, but I could never get consistent. I just didn't have any control, no finess. (I have a slash 4x4 lcg.) Now it's like the truck is in slow motion, and I can do whatever I want. I have complete control in the corners at low speeds...but there are a few things I still want to adjust, hence the hotwire post...)

I tried soldering up my rx8 again and here's one joint. Could you guys take a look at it and let me know?
I can't get the wire flat enough to go into the posts despite using a pair of pliers and a lot of force.
The strength is good but the colour worries me. The solder I'm using always cools off to give that colour though. If this isn't good enough, I might use a bigger iron. This was done with a 40w iron.

I just soldered mine yesterday....
It looks to me that you aren't getting it hot enough. The post next to your wire has a "glob" that is beaded up...if you had gotten it hot enough, the solder would wick out across the surface. It's hard to explain, but you'll understand when you see it.
I struggled with the same thing, and had to get a new soldering iron. I bought a 100watt "gun" type iron. It was $30, and heats up super fast. The instructions say to heat the contacts for 2-3 seconds, and you need some serious heat for that.
I'd be careful about trying to make your iron work. Ideally you touch the iron to the part, and touch the solder to the part. If you have to touch the solder to the iron to get it to melt, it won't stick to whatever you're soldering to.
I'd say go to home depot or equivalent store and buy something around 100 watts, like I did. You might be able to get it eventually with 40 watts, but a hotter iron makes it way easier.

My rx8 gen2 is flashing low neutral signal and high neutral signa it says to adjust trims to center, my trims are fine, all works fine and when it does its amazing, but throttle will stop responding after 5mins or so and I have to power everything down to get it going again.
Any idea what I can try? I'm using a 4pls, this is my first brushless system and rc car in 10 years so im not really sure what I should be trying
Thanks.

This is one of the best deals in the hobby, $15. Shipping isn't cheap but all in it's still cheaper than a Weller at home depot.

When it goes out of stock it is usually a week or so to come back in. Have your LHS or track get your ESC going for now and put that on backorder for your next soldering job.
Throw a couple tools in on the order to make the shipping sting a little less like shock shaft tool or some arm reamers or whatever you've been thinking about getting.
You need to get a Hakko T18-S3/P tip from eBay or home depot or a main or amazon or...
The tip that comes with this and the Hakko that this is a copy of comes with a small tip that's for fine wires.

I guess if you can't get anyone to solder it up for you then you have to do what you have to do to get your car on the track.
If its not getting hot enough, it will not be uncomfortable to hold
Didn't notice your in India... maybe the china warehouse would be a better choice to ship from and they probably have it in stock and even cheaper.
A gun or stick iron pales in comparison. That is a knock off of a $100 hakko and I have had mine for a few years now without any issues. It may take longer to get than going down to the store, but that's a tool that you'll have for years. And actually, I don't think that it would take very long at all from China to India.
Here's a link to the China store, not sure which plug type you use in India, there are a few choices.

The amount of data collected varies upon sample rate and data stream chosen. Motor RPM for example consumes a lot of memory. I don't find it very important in 1/8 so I turn it off and focus on temps, battery, etc.
Each time you set the car down on the track it's best to clear the memory by holding down the "inc" button for a few seconds and let it confirmation chime. This will maximize your data log run.

Hello
Well i had some problems with my tekin gen2 today. I ran one lipo and all was ok, just started the second one and i noticed that eventually the car wasnt responding to the steering input, i thought it was problems on the radio but just few seconds after the car stopped. When i catched the car i saw that all leds were flasbing and the steering was moving free and i had no input on throttle. I switched off and start it again and again all leds flashing, i looked at the receiver and the it was receiving input cause it was flashing a led.
So i dont know what is happening, need to try another receiver, but im asking it here because maybe had the same problem.
Thanks
