the alternative to a 2s battery and higher turn motor is to go away from the 540 motor can to a 380 can? this seems more heretical (is that a word?) which I am sure will get more severely negative responses.
it just seems the way we are going we will need to make the wheels bigger or find a sub 70tooth spur gear.
I've got a Novak Three-80 10.5T (with Mongoose ESC!) that was purchased way back just for that purpose. Part of the problem was that the motor has far too much power on 2s LiPo; Novak rates it about the same power output as a 13.5T 540! On 1s LiPo it's about right, and the lighter weight made the car balance much better.
Here is a video of 1/12th's running 21.5 motors on 2 cells.

The drivers in the other video were a mixture of local track guys and sponsored drivers. This video is a mixture of newbies and regular joes and they are running the same setup as the faster guys.

Those are nice but they won't work on the XTI front end due to the lip on the CRC front suspension arm.
Going to have to pick me up some of those RSD shims though...those are nice. As for the shock I'll stick with the CRC. I can't imagine a shock being smoother and the ability to change spring without taking the rod end off of the shock shaft puts it ahead of all the others in my book.
