I love this thread and the fact that I've contributed to it's longevity.

The batteries have been replaced 3 times in 12 years. They still look nearly new. All of them work flawlessly, and they get used 8 months out of the year.

Picture was taken Jan of 2013. This is before I put new stickers on them. As you can see, no hacking.

Everybody needs to stop bitching about transponders. Buy them, or don't get counted...

Interesting!

So you are saying you chose the "Custom Number" option and then when you got it, you ordered the Car Id transponders?

When I tried that (just now) with the five original AMB DP transponders that I own it tells me the numbers are already taken.

Did I miss a step somewhere or am I misunderstanding the procedure?

BTW, where in NJ are you?

Oder info for AMBdp Transponders Click on little help (?) icon.

For the new MYLAPS RC4 Transponders, the TVC is an extra security code that is printed on the front of the transponder. The TVC helps us validate that the person who handles the transponder is the actual owner and has the physical product with him. It is similar to the CVC/CVC code you find on credit cards.

Older, RC4-hybrid Transponders don't have a TVC. However, you can order RC4 Car ID Transponders with these transponders; just leave the TVC-check field blank.

The TVC is a three-digit security code, printed on the front of the transponder.
If you cannot find your TVC code due to product wear, please contact us.

I had two originals from 2001 until I lent one out about a year ago....never saw the guy again! After the first run of these early ones from 2001 AMB increased the signal strength. I tested mine side by side with a RC4 purcy and the purcy has twice the hits!

BTW....mine has never missed a lap!

A few years back Ed and I argued who had the first RC decoder and PT's in the country! I still think it was ME!

So we all agree, $100 is a small price to pay for something that will last you 10+ years. Great thread, thanks!!

Not many of us that remember counting laps by hand are disagreeing much. Transponders, even handouts, are possibly the biggest improvement in RC racing ever, more so than lipo, brushless, and 2.4GHz transmitters I think.

Yes DaveH, I remember very well, sitting at an old 386 computer, running autoscore, and a guy was calling out the car numbers as I punched the keys.

This is what we used. Things are much better now.

Hey fellas,
I have myLaps and need to make it mobile for 5 different cars. I don't want to hook this to different RXs. Anyone know what voltage the Mylaps is rated for max? Any one just hook this to small lipo, take it in and out of different cars without plugging it in to the rx?

That is interesting but it doesn't appear to be very productive. If I enter one of my AMB DP transponder numbers (the ones that don't have a TVC code) it says "Not found in database" and the BUY-NOW button remains disabled.

If I enter an RC4 number without the TVC code, the result is the same.

The only way the BUY-NOW button gets enabled for me is with a RC4 number and a matching TVC code.

That doesn't get me an RC4 with the number of a DP transponder.

Any one have a different result? If so, that would seem to be wrong on MyLaps part because anyone could enter an older DP transponder number (that they don't own) and get an RC4 with the same number.

Technical Definition: "DP Transponder" ==>> The one with the integral ears that AMB was selling before the RC4 transponders

I chose the number from a DP, said it was available... then chose the option for two more... They were ordered at the same time.

Did you buy yours new? Were they ever registered with AMB/MyLaps? I bought mine new direct from AMB,... I've never registered them with AMB/Mylaps... because I haven't raced at a track that was tied to it. That might have something to do with it.

I don't think that was me. There was a local track here (Pottbelleys) that had an rc system... one or two years before me. They got theres in 99, 2000

Sorry....thought it was you! Who ran the Pottbelleys track? Maybe I'm thinking Ed Hill.

Edit: I remember now, it was Drew who ran Pottbelleys. That may have been the one I had in mind about who had the first AMBrc.
