Official Tekin RX8 GEN2 ESC Thread
#1036
I recently built a second EB48. Electronics are the same, except in the new one I have a Gen2 instead of Gen1 RX8 and no Castle BEC.
I love not needing another bit of electronics floating around in there, due to not needing an external BEC for HV.
However, I still like the feel of the RX8 Gen1 (prior to the last software update) much better than either the last update to the Gen1 or the Gen2. The older firmware feels much more direct to me, though the newer one may be easier to drive except for finding exact distances for jump downsides (such as a downside into an immediate turn), due to having to pull the trigger further than I used to.
What can I do to get the old feel back with the Gen2? I have no current limiting nor timing in use on either, and both are tied to a T8 1900. Both have always been set up Linear for curves, and I've used the same model/rx in both with the same results (different feel of Gen1 and Gen2).

Update your gen1 firmware before you go spend $200+ on a gen2. The firmware released a couple months ago is a lot smoother than the last one
Ha ha! Late post.
Poet, I agree. It's like there is more curve built into it than the last version. But I like it a little better. Less current limiting for me.
Everyone's looking for something different.

Yeah, curves might account for most of it.
I noticed it with my SCT410 when I upgraded the Gen1 firmware (before giving that one to my wife). It felt squishy, but with so much current limit it didn't seem to be an issue.
With the EB48, we have a gap jump after going around a tight 90 degree turn with almost no runup. With the old Gen1 firmware (I didn't update that RX8) I only need about 5/8 throttle to clear it. Now I have to ramp to it a little more and give a full throttle burst by the end of the jump face to make it...which also more often over jumps it, but without that I tend to under jump. Like with the other change, I can probably adjust myself and my habits to it if I have to, but I much prefer the older responsiveness.

So if i'm running an non HV servo can I turn the BCE to 7.4 and not have issues with my JR9100s servo? or you can only run HV servo on 7.4 ??

Personally, if is says 6v max, that's what I'd run.
Kind of like running 3s on a 2s kv motor, may work for a little while.
My 2¢ for and unknown outcome till you know it.

You can adjust things like your current limiter and min throttle to get the same feel.
Post your old setup and I can help when I see it.

I would not recommend running a servo at 7.4v that isn't capable of it.

I got my RX8 Gen2 and 1700kv motor for my DEX408 and it is awesome i had a non sensored piece of rubbish before lol and this is night and day difference, love it! and i have only roughly set it up on the speedo still to get a hotwire!
So when i get my hotwire will the settings that i have changed on the speedo show on the hotwire or will it go back to default and i have to adjust again?

Hay Randy,
Can you explain the ESC setting "Throttle min and brake min". Basically what they do to the car and what I will feel. That is the only settings I have not messed with. I see in an earlier post you said you can change the throttle min to change the feel.
Thanks.
