Tekno RC EB48 Thread

And just out of curiosity (no offense intended at all), why were you running the trackstar if you're a team hobbywing driver? Again, please don't take this post the wrong way, i really don't want any flame wars.

This was taken tonight, Sean Ramos testing out his EB48 jumping skills at The Loft RC raceway. First R/C car to run at this new track, before the track was even built. The wall is 14 feet tall, and it was 22 feet from the lip of the jump to the wall. He landed on his wheels!!

I don't really see why you would run that high of a Kv in a buggy in the first place? My buddy runs 2250Kv hobbywing and he is no faster down the straight than i am. I just felt the bearings on my trackstar and they feel really smooth and no wobble like they're about to go out. I don't really understand the intended tone of that post, but from my perspective, it just looks like you're trying a "mine's better than your's" sorta attitude. It really doesn't matter much to me though as you're sponsored and you have to say what you say and run what you have to run. I chose this buggy and all my electronics from the un-biased opinions of the average non-sponsored racers on this forum. And even though the tone of my post seems very negative, i'm not a hobbywing hater. I'm running a 4000Kv motor in my sct410 and a 150 amp xerun esc in my eb48. All i was really trying to say was that telling me what you're running doesn't tell me a whole lot.

When it comes to being sponsored, if the equipment is no good I would not run it regardless of a sponsorship. I support the products I run because I really do believe in them. I run the 2250 because thats what I have in my box, I will be ordering an 1800kv. Yes there is not much top speed difference but there is a power difference and they both drive differently. I was not bragging or boasting about anything. I have been doing this for over 20 years now and my days of bragging are long behind me. I just think you misunderstood my reason for posting, which was to forewarn racers to check the bearings in the motor before it is too late. Things take a little longer for me to accomplish because I am 1 handed so some maintenance goes unchecked sometimes, and I`m sure if I were more diligent I would have caught the bearing before it failed.
I`m not flaming either, I just wanted you to hear my position on this matter..................Now back to talking about the Great Tekno products

I liked the Hobbywing equipment before I was sponsored by them, and for running the turnigy motor I just dont believe in wasting perfectly good stuff. The reason I bought it in the first place was because it was a good deal.

Anyway.......now that tekno is going to release carbon shock towers, are there any special procedures to do when using them on the buggy? Somebody mentioned having to sand, and then seal them to protect the carbon from splitting on direct impacts. Is this accurate, or are they just bolt on and forget about it?

I am debating on buying a EB48 buggy. I have a Losi 2.0 e now which is Ok but I was looking for something with a little more aggressive handeling. I was at a race this last week end and there where two guys there with EB48's and they looked amazing on the track. Any body switch from a Losi with a comparsion?

I agree, hobbywing stuff has served me well. My 150 amp xerun has worked awesome so far and i've had no issues. On a side note, I think everyone on here would love to see a new 8th scale esc based off the xerun 150 amp. Get rid of the switch, smaller footprint, and adjustabilty on par with tekin and castle software. That would be my idea of the perfect 8th scale esc. All the other 8th scale esc's have big downfalls that led me to choose the hobbywing. Viper vtx-8 is sensored only, tekin rx-8 seems fragile from everything i read, and castle's MMM is unsensored only. While the existing 150 amp xerun is great and i will continue to run it, all you'd have to do is make a couple changes in the form of a v2, and hobbywing would dominate the 8th scale electronics market, and fill the gaps the competition left behind.

From what I know about carbon you should wet sand the edges with some 400 or 600 paper then you can apply super glue to the edges. I like to use good quality glue and apply it with a q-tip, do several coats.

So today I got some more practice in at the track and the EB48 went well until it no longer responded to throttle on the third battery.
Long story short it was the Tekin sensor cable. I've not had any experience with sensored systems before, is this that common, or did I cable it badly?
This is what the setup currently looks like. I thought there was enough give for the sensor cable.

Being worried about this earlier I have already got two new Tekin cables coming, but I don't think they will show up tomorrow, in time for racing on Sunday, so I'm back to the Vorza again.
Is there a better quality cable I can get or is it just me? I was kind of surprised the VTX8 didn't come with one, being a sensored only ESC. I see Viper do have them and they look ok.

isn't fully connected. The way these plug in I can't see them
disconnecting, but a loose connection at the plugs, yes.
I guess as the VTX8 is sensored only, it would come with a cable, as
some motors, like Tekin, can run in both modes and you may not have
one anymore. Never mind, it's just one of those things.
The VTX8 has been good. Used it three times and twice had throttle problems. First time was the battery, no the cable, so I'm getting good at working out what is wrong, ha, ha. I hope there isn't a third time.
