I have had some long email conversations with Stan, and i get it. I had a LT4 go bad on me after about 6 months of use, and we went through all the procedures to see what failed. I ended up buying a ~$20.00 replacement board, dropping it in and fine ever since.

He tests everything before it leaves, as many people that claim to get these DOA doesn't add up.

I think it comes down to most people not willing to admit they screwed up and burned it up.

RC electronics are very fickle, and subject to horrific abuse. Heat damages them over time, as well as vibration, and also moisture if they are left in less than ideal conditions (car trunk, garage, etc) Not to mention hooking them up backwards, overgearing, pulling to much amperage through the BEC, bad soldering, etc.

I have 5 of these speedos, and they all get used 2x a week between me and my kids at the track. I have only had the one issue, which i tracked back to a stage going bad in a cheap hobbywing motor.

Hell, i wish he would make an 1/8th scale ESC, i would buy it in a heartbeat. I am more than happy with his products. They have all lasted a very long time with regular use.

I have an LT4 one of the first generation ones. It has been through 3 different cars and currently running in my kids stock sc. Its a good product never had trouble with it. Also never had to call Stan for customer service. I think it would be reasonable to charge a little more $10-15 dollars per esc and give the customers a small warranty like 90 days. Pretty much anything you buy now days comes with some warranty.

The new speedo was pulling wheelies.. Couldnt beleive it. Has way more punch, power etc than the brushless hobbies. We were all laughing, trying to figure it out. What is the difference.. Only thing we could come up with, maybe the fets are different. Less resistance.. Im not a electronics guy, but I am a very seasoned racer. It was amaizing to see the difference.
are you sure the timing and calibration settings were identical on both ESC's?

I have been running BHR, HW and XCar ESC's for a while now and feel that they are all identical in performance so long as you use the same settings in the tests I have done. The only difference in performance that I found is going from a 60A ESC to a 120A ESC, then the motor (3rd leg) really comes alive.

I have also experienced severe cogging from a bad sensor hall in a motor. I thought it was a bad ESC and swapped out to a new ESC which still had the same cogging and blew out the second ESC too

Wasn't the manufacturers fault that I wired up a faulty motor which in turn blew out 2 perfectly good ESC's

I have since ordered a sensor hall tester for my motors the next time I suspect there is a problem so I can rule out any issues before ruining another ESC.

Everything was identical. He just recently put two in a clodbuster and they replaced castle sv2's that were programmed "high" for racing. He told me, all he did was reverse the rear motor and used base settings. The truck runs faster on the same motors and gearing it had before, with the HK speedo's. The motors are 4600 2 pole.

As far as the cogging issue, as soon as it does it, race or not, stop the vehicle. 99% of the time, it is a bad sensor wire. I have had a few go.

Default lt4 and stan

I too had lt4. I too no longer have lt4. I too agree on poor customer service, didnt even aknowledge email. Lt4 did not fail due to abuse, wrong gearing, bad battery,as the truck never had the tires on the ground. My opinion is to stay away from BHR and stan !

All i can say is i never had a major issues with the LT4 on my 4x4 SC i have two of them . To be honest even bigger named ESC have issues out of the box or not ive seen it it happens. The only thing i hate is the cap board its just something else to get in the way or pull a loose wire.

Ive ran the ESC for a long time and its been though diffrent surfaces etc and held up good. Granded i run my as non sensored setup but its pretty smooth so i dont know if i have a need for sensored.

I just ordered a extra Cap board from BH and i got it pretty fast in the mail did not get ripped off even with the extra ESC. So i would tell others that i know to buy one.

Customer service well heres the hard truth that when you buy things cheaper your not going to get that good of a service.

I was reading the post on the first page and i noticed that two guys said they had issues running Tenshock motors on 2s with the LT4 ESC . Im not sure why it would have issues on them its always ran fine with my 401/ 4600 kv Tenshock on 2s.

I just came here to state that the Hobbyking X-Car 120a (same ESC as Stan's) worked perfectly for me at under $40 shipped. Stan's ESC however did NOT work for me.

No reason to buy from Stan. Get the Hobbyking. Shipping times were similar, even though Stan is stateside.

And someone stated earlier that the Hobbyking can't do blinky mode. That is false. It totally can.

I originally bought the original 120a BH ESC after reading glowing reviews on here. Worked awesome. The LT4 was released and around the same time I was getting another car going so I picked one up. Hooked it up in my XXX-SCT running a 13.5t sensored motor and it died within 60 seconds of the first outdoor run. Contacted Stan and after increasingly contentious emails I got the same treatment and even threats. I threw away my LT4 and sold the og 120a and switched to a company that actually designs their own stuff (Viper) and supports it.

Posted an honest review of my ESC on his site...you won't find it anywhere because he doesn't allow less than perfect reviews port. Honestly I can't believe that a year or so later that we are from my experience that the guy is still in business...you can buy the same thing for less from other sources and get better service at the same time.

Yea i bought two of the lt4 escs before the price jacked up on them . As for reviews if i did one on the site , i would say the lt4 is good because well i have not had major issues with it .

But if i got a other esc im going to look at the hobbywing or the hobbyking one .

Seriously, the Hobbyking is awesome. Where else can you get a 120a ESC capable of 6.5T motors and 3S, that is sensored? You can buy 4 for around the price of something like the reventon pro. Can't beat it. The BEC is solid as well.

Default I'd like to open this thread back up

Does anyone know what the deal is with Stan now? I ordered an ESC from him 8 days ago and I haven't yet received a shipping notice yet. After reading many forum pages, i'm not sure what to think. It sounds like when he started the business, everything was good, now its the opposite. Why keep the website alive when you cant fulfill orders? I think im ok because paypal will eventually give me a refund, but i'd rather just get the LT4.

can anyone shed some light?
