Brushless Hobbies & Stan
I would like to share my experience what has happen with BHR & Stan. I would like to add that BHR customer service in my experience is horrible to say the least. After hooking up the LT4 for 5 minutes it started cogging and then the fan and the ESC died. I hooked it up like I always do in all my cars. This was hooked up in my new Tekno. I have contacted Stan about this and all he can say it is my fault and that I hooked it up wrong. He started off nice and wanting to help and then he just got nasty. In my experience with this company and their support I would stay far and clear from having anything to do with them. Not bashing just sharing my run in with Stan and BHR.

I have had the LT4 all winter with no problems. Its one of the smoothest speedo's I have ever had. Knowing how the customer service is, I will not buy another speedo from him.
On another note, I seen hobby king has a new speedo that looks exactly like the BH speedo. Friend of mine purchased one, used the BH software and tried to connect to it.. IT WORKED. The only thing different from BH and HK is, the HK has no blinky mode.. The HK is 36 bucks.. So, now my next speedo purchase has been confirmed.. HobbyKing |
You know..Motor and ESC is only ONE leg of the same THREE legged stool. Cut any leg off off and it crashes down. The other two legs and just as important is the right gearing and the right battery. If any of those two are off, damages will incur faster then we could ever react to. Then it's crying time on the forums. And I make that statement because all I've read by people who think that they've been burned never address the other two legs of the stool. Just as is the case here with the postinng above Ever notice that? I sure have.
I'm sorry to say it but I believe that many of these problems people complain about are just plain self inflicted because they didn't take the time to wear out a little a little shoe leather so to speak. They get a new toy in the mail and they want to go right out to play. If I were to make a major change to any RC (changing out an ESC is major) I would always take the time to start at square one check and double check my solder joints and make sure it's right by spending some time first with a full pinion tree and temp gun. Just so everyone knows. This post is pretty much a copy and paste job from another forum by the same person. |
Yea.. or it's a piece of crap and the customer service leaves alot to be desired. Easy to point a finger and say you f'd it up.. Harder to admit to you or your products own shortcomings.

Now on another note, I'll put on my businessman's cap for a moment. I happen to be a businessman too with 40 years under my belt. Occasionally, I have had to handle complaints. I can not say it went this way but my own 40 year guts tell me how things went down. I'll break down what the original poster said and I'll follow it with my own take on it. As stated in the original post, "He started off nice and wanting to help". My take? No surprises there, any good businessman would be concerned when there is an issue. After this, here is where I would be asking my own questions about how the problem came to be and any resolution WILL BE KEYED ON HIS ANSWERS. "and then he just got nasty". My take, his being "nasty" is actually just being told exactly what he DIDN'T want to hear. That a new unit is NOT in the mail to him. It's right at this very point where things then get emotional. If it turns out that the problem is actually self inflicted ie by not taking the extra time to follow prudent protocalls then how, as a businessman why should I take care of something that is his screw up and that I had absolutly no control over? I'm sorry it's happened but as a busnessman, I would've said and done the same thing as Stan. |
That's almost funny. I own a business too. I do asphalt work,, 3rd generation.. I've paved my whole life.. I watched my grandfather handle customer's, I've watched my father handle customer's, and I handle customer's. I also do evaluations for the BBB on unresolved customer complaints.. Pardon me if I toss my businessman hat into the ring as well. There are a couple of local company's that I always seem to be called about. They have one line.. "It ain't my fault" A true businessman knows how to evaluate and alleviate. Anyone that repeatedly points to the customer as the blame and never accepts responsibility for his product is a poor businessman. So in your evaluation the customer has always been at fault? I hear this over and over about Stan, so he is always right and all the problems are customer errors? Just like I would never have these local clowns pave a walkway for me, I will steer clear of Brushless Hobbies. Personally I fix complaints which is why I have zero listed against me in my 40 years...
P.S. My B.H. lasted one night with a Tenshok 4600, so my dog died outta this hunt long ago. I got told I didn't know what I was doing. So best of luck with your endeavor sir. |
I don't really think that I claimed in my own business the customer is always at fault in all instances. It has and does go both ways but each time an issue does arise my resolution is based on the facts of that particular job. If for instance, I build a diesel engine or transmission and when I put it on the dyno, if my pressures or whatever are not what they should be I have to tear it back down again (partial or total) to find out why. That extra time and materials I may put in would never be charged for, I eat it.
Fast forward a little bit. My customer has his machine running fine and working for awhile and it's still in my warranty window. But this company doesn't maintaine the equipment like they should and they run it out of oil and it siezes. It doesn't matter if it's in warranty or not. A responsibility line has been crossed, it then goes into the abuse lane and I won't cover it. |
Oh I agree.. I built a "parking pad" once.. Guy claimed he wanted it to park a boat and wash off 4-wheeler's. He called me about 2 months later and said it was coming apart and caving in.. I went over without calling one day to check it out.. He had a helicopter on it.. No warranty for him! But I pave something and first time it rains there's ducks landing in the lot.. I fix it no prob! lol!!

It's then that I explain that the engine had to be knocking LONG BEFORE the end of the field and his operator had to have known it. It's only until just then I made him realise his own operator was just too lazy to stop the engine and get out and walk to his truck. I'll confess that I love to see the look on thier faces, I swear I can see a little cloud and lightbulb hovering above his head. My customer just got schooled. Some operators are just to dumb to hear, and if they do they dont care they just reach down and turn that radio up a little bit louder until it stops and won't go any further. On more then one occasion I get a cooked engine in and it has brand new oil in it too. |
Update:
Seen the HobbyKing speedo run. Found out, the brushless hobbies software works on the HobbyKing speedo. He had the exact same profile in the HobbyKing as the Brushless Hobbies, same gearing same battery. Only switched speedo's. The new speedo was pulling wheelies.. Couldnt beleive it. Has way more punch, power etc than the brushless hobbies. We were all laughing, trying to figure it out. What is the difference.. Only thing we could come up with, maybe the fets are different. Less resistance.. Im not a electronics guy, but I am a very seasoned racer. It was amaizing to see the difference. |
I hae three of the lt4s no problems. But I would like to buy one of these and take them apart and set them side by side.

To the OP sorry to hear about this I had close to the same experience as you and have never been treated or talked down to like Stan did to me. |
I had one and so did my buddy. One just ran really slow. Updated the software and changed everything no response from him. My buddy had one just die Stan said mail it back then never returned a call or email. Decent product but from my experience horrible customer service. At least hobby king acknowledges you.
