RC10B4.1 FT/WC
PS people will tell you to boost a motor. Boosting is not simply going fast and its not free. Given the choice of a boosted 10.5 vs a non boosted 8.5, I would get an 8.5. Non boosted just feel smoother. Boost and turbo can make a motor very punchy. Btw, I boost motors all the time, but for different reasons than speed and smoothness.
That is exactly what I said when I was driving an RS Pro. I tried no timing on the can & adding boost/timing on the esc. I never could get it to smooth out. It would have a big jump in power that would hit from 2" to 10" out (depending on the settings). I tried everything to get rid of it (even different motors & borrowing another RS Pro). The only way I could get rid of it was to run blinky & add timing on the can only. This was fine & I was perfectly happy with the smoothness... until I tried a different brand ESC.
I bought a Speed passion reventon r for my b4 just to give it a try. I initially set it similar to the rs pro & was COMPLETELY BLOWN AWAY how smooth it was. After driving it for a while & getting used to it I started playing with the boost settings. I have ended up with 2 steps off max & almost no timing on the can. The reventon is smoother with near max boost than the rs pro was on blinky.
Basicaly what I'm saying is boost is all dependant on what you want out of a given motor/ESC combo & what that combo is.
You are correct, I'm just pointing out that it is a case by case, try it you may like it case. The reventon is smoother by a small margin without boost. Even with boost it is smoother than my RS pro is with out boost.
Speed passion is gaining some ground here in Alabama (8 ESC's in use currently at my track & I have another on order) & so far there have been no problems. I've had issues with lrp motors, but those issues, & the viper & gen 2 tekin motors not playing well with the reventon are a known factor. I was just trying to work around them since that was the motors I had. No one has been running them for very long (4 months +/-), so I can't speak to longevity yet, but there hasn't been a single out of the box problem yet. I can't say the same about viper, tekin, or lrp at my track in the same time frame with even smaller numbers of new products. In the past few months I have seen 1 doa viper ESC, 2 doa viper motors, 1 doa tekin ESC, a second tekin has now been in service for 6 weeks (I chalk that one up to the Chinese New Year though), & a doa lrp flow.
lol, I wont get into a best esc match. I troll the SP thread and it seems like at least for a while the reventons line was having issues. A local took his apart and saw many cold solder joints. he resoldered them and it works fine now. In the past with the HW SP clones they were very good.

I guess your right, I was getting a bit over board there

I will definitely keep that info about the cold solder joints in mind if I do run across any problems, thanks.

Well i must say successful day at the track yesterday of tuning! ended up finding some good shock settings and battery spot with a couple pads. i must say rolling that trigger helps like crazy! was beating a couple b44's and t4's by the end of the day came.

Yeah amazing how much different you have to drive without the crutch of 4wd. Now you know why I was telling you not to strap a mod motor in your B4.

one of the tracks i run on has so much grip you can basicly just jam the throttle and have no issues. the other starts out kinda slick and once it dries it has a nice balance, enough grip to make it fast, but enough "give" so you can slide your car.
overall being a "smooth" driver makes you faster.

Check out the first page of this thread...all the info is there.
anyone here have the older style pin rims in the rear and bearing wheel front pm me if you would like to sell some. I am looking for rims, yellow preferred but I am open to other colors as well as mounted rear tires in loose offroad compounds and tread patterns. so for example:
- Proline M3 Step Pins
- Losi Big Shot Red Compound
- Losi Ifmar Pins Red Compound
- JConcepts Flip outs Green Compound
etc.
By the way, anyone ever broken there rear toe block and lower plate? I noticed this when doing some work on my car, its like the screw just ripped through both. Never had that happen before.
