For the wiring - its an unsensored unit so plug it in and give it little throttle, if it goes backwards, switch two connectors and verify.
There is a basic gear chart in the instruction manual, or you can let me know what chassis you have we can put you in the ball park. Always better to start one tooth lower, just to make sure temps aren't bad, but it can leave room for improvement.

I believe that is similar to the Losi, so you would want to look like a 13-14 to start with. Like I mentioned before, you always want to stop and check temps first min or two at first just to be sure you're in the ball park.

I won't say its not good for racing, its an option for many reasons.
1) price - can't beat the price for level of performance you get
2) set up - super easy to set up
3) maintenance - super easy to maintain
4) performance - testing has shown that it has speed and power to compete with higher end systems
5) ProGauge - adjustable just like our "pro" series, with even more straight forward adjustments
I lent a young man a Copperhead system at Motorama this year, he had the 7th fastest overall time - and 11th overall in qual point. He literally put the system in his truck Friday, practiced 3 times with it and almost made the A Main against a good number of factory drivers. And our team drivers have used it at several 4wd SC events over the last year.
Don't knock up, til you try it. BTW, you can run the popular (expensive) 4 pole motor with it as well, been told it works pretty good.
