Also, I wont be using them on prepared tracks, just regular asphalt, ex. driveway, parking lots, streets, etc. which there will be some loose dirt/rocks. Should I still consider these tires?

Yes, get those, and they will do fine for unprepped asphalt, just expect to get tears in the foam from time to time. If you do get a tear, I have found Shoe Goo or Amazing Goop to make excellent repairs in securing both foam and torn rubber back into place. I have even made spot repairs on my 1/8 rubber tires with 6S power with Amazing Goop... I love that stuff!

Thank you for the help billdelong.

Friday when I get paid I'm going to order them, was also thinking about ordering a set of the rc18r (stock?) wheels, since their so cheap.

That way I'll have an alternative if there is a lot of loose debris where I'll be driving.

Are there any recommended slightly bigger offroad wheels/tires for bashing with the 18b2 shocks mounted? I'm mainly going to be running on dirt/extremely short dead grass and a basketball court to start with my son who is getting a losi mini desert truck for his birthday. I know these sc18s arent really made for that but I'm gonna give it a go anyway.

My local hobby store has a track and races 1/18 sct I've noticed that the sc18 is very little ground clearance. How does this drive? Does it bottom out a lot? Can anyone know?

The ground they drive on is compact but has smalle holes.

I never got one. I have a bit of a sarcastic streak.

It does have very little clearance and mine bottoms out a lot. A pebble in the parking lot will send it into a 40mph end over end flip fest. A ton of fun though and durable as hell. I would like to be able handle bumps and little rocks better maybe with some bigger tires as I already have a little more ground clearance than usual (i think) with the 18b2 shocks installed.

I once tried to fit wheels from my Helion Animus and they would fit with hex adapters from the mini Slash, but the tires would rub on the chassis, even worse when you tried to turn the front wheels, doh!

Yeah, sorry for the lack of input on the SC18's offroad capabilities. That might be an indication that it really doesn't do all that well offroad. Unless it's a REALLY well- groomed surface. Bill and I would run our box stock SC18s every once in a while at our local indoor clay track where they did pretty well. That track closed a year and a half ago and that's about all the offroad action my SC18 EVER saw. In the real world on actual dirt my SC18 was just horrible. Now, like Bill, my SC18 is a tarmac terrorizing tiny truck! Well, actually, it sports a McAllister Corvette body these days, but anyway...

Yeah. I absolutely love this thing but I need something with a little more offroad capability. I wish there was a suitable track around here for it. I guess it's going back up on the block for now. Thanks for all the info guys!

Oh yeah, Just FYI, I wanted to add that even though this battery says it's 118mm, it still fit the sc18. I didn't get a chance to measure it to verify the specs on HK. It's a tight fit but a good one:

If I were to buy an off-road mini today, I'd get a 1/14 Tacon Buggy:

I got my sc18 used but so far I have put the rc18 long shocks and ball diffs (which fixed the dogbones coming out of the outdrives issue).
And a whole bunch of LEDs so I can drive it at night.

Only other changes I want to make now is softer springs for the rear, its a little too bouncy on dirt, but it sure is enjoyable, a lot actually. And a velcro to hold the battery down, that plastic thing that comes with the car is useless, my battery flew out of my car the other day as it was doing a centuple cartwheel which it enjoys to do regularly do to my poor driving (still learning how the truck behaves on different road conditions...)

And with the long springs if I'm driving on asphalt and it veers off into grass I can just drive it off into the asphalt again, instead of it getting stuck in the grass and me having to walk all the way up to it, picking it up, and putting it back down on the ground...

Also my truck came with a maxamps 2200 mAh battery, and since you say that 1600 fits then these 2200 should definitely fit, they are shorter in length also. I have not measured the size of the battery compartment though, I am just going by your words saying a 118mm one fit, these are 114mm

I do really like the looks of those Tacon minis. Looks like they may come out with a 1/12 scale as well if this rally car is any indicator: http://www.nitrorcx.com/25c207-12-ra...brushless.html

the 1/12 Tacon Rally is the same chassis as the 1/14 Buggy, only reason they changed the scale is because the rally body is larger, but parts are 95% compatible between the cars.

Here are some pics of my truck, will be more of a trophy truck than a sct when I am done with it I guess.. Im definitely enjoying it as my first rc.

How I got the truck + a black body which you will see a lot of pics below

First attempt at some lights to be able to see it at night and a comparison of the regular/long shocks.

In this first attempt I used 26 AWG stranded wire which after a couple flips snapped, so this didnt make the cut.

And a revised version of the roof lights, a lot cleaner looking, smaller, and the beam looks better now, all pointing same direction so you only see one circle in the wall when up close to it (instead of 2, see pics above to see what I mean)

The roof lights dont have resistors but they only get slightly warm, not worrying about it.

Also in this attempt below I used solid 20 AWG wire instead of stranded wire, so far haven't had a problem with it. It is mounted on the truck with 3M double sided tape, rarely every now and then it comes off, I just put it back in the tape, hold together very good.

I have more pics at home but these were the only ones I could get at work from dropbox.

Later I might rewire everything to the lipo, not sure yet. But for now and a lot of the testing I am doing I chose to stick with the 2 AA's
