Someone I know just recently bought an RC supercharger and he said it works great while another person I know said they don't work and they are just trouble. I have also heard people using them 4-stroke nitro engines and the same debate happens. What do you guys think? Do they really work or are they just trouble?

hi.
why do you want a super charger?
Personally i would use the money on a better modded engine.
But theoreticly when you juse a charger it is not entierly corect to say you wil get more air and therfore run lean..That is a mather of tuning.
The charger wil also force more fuel thru the system if you adjust it corect.
Are you dragracing? or oval running?
If youre not,dont by it!

Most of the times people with low end enginges think of such a solution not knowing that their engines can not handle much more power.

Hmm.
IF you want to test how you engine will run with the extra power, why not
simply up the nitro to 50%??
At least you will see what extra power will be like in the engine. I'm not saying the engine will survive for a long time with the increased power, but, you should at least get to see what the additional power feels like.
I think if you really want to see what crazy power feels like, run an electric buggy on a 6 cell lipo. Now that's some seriously stupid power. If you can control it.
