SC10 4x4 Thread
My issues with the AE 4x4 setups are the age and relevance. Most are high bite setups, he said low traction. Most of them are old and outdated due to the addition of the 8mm mod, then center diffs and etc. I will probably try kinwalds because it is the most current one and he has been putting a lot of time into the sc10 4x4. If you think kinwalds is not for you try, the setup that Mantis suggested a few pages back. He races on mostly large outdoor tracks. And others have commented that it is a good starting setup. I will try it after kinwalds setup fails me. I have tried kinwalds setups before back in my losi days and i never liked them. I always went with Matt Francis back then. Mantis's setup is very reasonable. I would also avoid setups that are based around $300 of upgrade parts like the exo chassis, rc shox c diff, 2 stage pistons and many many many more. Or you will soon have $1000 into your truck.
Your correct .....

If lived down there ?
Would only be helping um and make it a much closer & fun race ...
Of the setups listed on the website, can you lease recommend which one you would use based on my description of the track in the previous post?
Specifically, it is a relatively large (1/8 style) outdoor track. It is smooth (hard-packed dirt), low traction, dusty.
Thanks in advance.

Whats the name of the track you are racing on ?
WC, I race at Leisure Hours Raceway. You can see a good description of the track conditions by looking at Maifield's 7/18/2010 set-up sheet for the SC10 (2wd).
I have been looking on the rc10 site for weeks to see if they add any good setups for larger, outdoor tracks. I have been disappointed in my continued attempts. Obviously others have as well, as it was mentioned by someone else just in the past day or so (and possibly at other times in the past).
The purpose of my request is two-fold. One, to make the point (to you mostly) that the rc10 setup pages do not always have an option that really captures an individual's track/race conditions. With this in mind, maybe a setup like Marcus' (even if I don't have cdiff) may be a better starting place than any listed on the rc10 page. And second, I would be interested in your opinion. My guess would be you suggest ...... but I will have to wait and see.
I have to go meet with my boss, but will check back in a few (I may not mention I am rushing the meeting so I can get back to an R/C forum).

Dromaeye, I don't know when you were there last, but it's Really, Really dried out. I was there the last couple Wed's and it's super slippery, especially since 4WD SC is always the last heat. Any water on the track is dried up by the time we go. I've searched the setup sheets, the only one that I think is close is Max's Nitro Blast setup from 3/4/12.
Try Mantis's setup on the first page of the RCShox thread. I'm pretty close to that. I actually did OK this week with my setup. If I could only figure out the quad......Can't consistently do anything, double/double or triple/single. Don't even bother trying to clear it.
With respect ....
drol, after this weekend will send you a name of a local Ae driver that dominates on tracks just like yours ....
Just like to check with him first .....
Yes, as I mentioned, I think Mantis' setup may be a good place to start.
I have an Exotek that I am going to install, I just haven't had the time yet (nor have I driven the truck in over a week).
I have over 1000 in the truck (as my wife clearly showed me with an Excel spreadsheet that she could only put together after I showed her how to use Excel in the past to quickly tabulate things). The money is more for my fun and enjoyment of the hobby, as I am not a competitive racer yet.
Edit: I see quite a few people have made suggestions as to where to go for setups. I appreciate this, but I should clarify that I was just trying to make a point. I have good resources to fall back on, including Marcus' suggestions, good advice at my track, and of course, what I read from the community here.
WC, it would be great if you could forward a good setup for the conditions I described. Like I said, I was trying to make a point, but at the same time I know you have reliable resources yourself and I would certainly be happy if I continued to benefit from them.

drol, only advised to pick the set-up that comes close to your track .
Its almost impossible to make a list of set-ups for every track in the country .....
Not even sure where the one you like is intended for or from .....
Best of luck .....

I do agree with cherry about one thing. If you go way off the reservation on hop up parts, the AE setup sheets and the advice you get from AE drivers might not match up. But, no mater the car, some things are just the same. Raise the front ball studs to make it push more, etc. You get the point. The 4x4 sc turns on a dime, a little too much. My goal is basically what mantis said, make it push then back it off till I like it. And his setup is very reasonable for that. And I am sure by the end of tonight, I will have his setup on my truck.
your right, rc10 dosnt have em all.. when I ran the rc8be there was 2 setups for like a year and a half and that was it. stock and heartson.. alot of people just want to copy the setup of the month, but when you are truly limited or have nothing to go off of, you actually have to do some work and trial and error. most people are lazy and thats why many gave up. this will make anybody truly learn and understand what and why.. but it is very time consuming. I was talking about setups and this stuff last night with WC at the track... hes got the knowledge...

FT stock setup is pretty good on loose dry track with rear camber link raised and tweak the shock oils to your liking. Tire choice, tire choice, tire choice. I am running no added weight with 4pole 540 and Nanotech saddles and love the way it drives. Wanting to try the Exo inner slipper hub for some more pull out of the corners but don't want to give up steering. I like lots of steering. Also having very good results with the Garodisc's paired with 10k in the front and 5k in the rear. Truck can literally be thrown into a corner without fear of over rotation or oversteer. Just looking for that little bit of pull out of the corner that I am loosing compared to the Losi.
