I have a 48t metal gear on mine (not by choice, in a pintch) but I had to shim out my center diff to fit the gear on the 8ight b e. I just had to put a small piece of material ( I used g10) under both half center diff holders. Otherwise the gear would not work.

Tonnes.

I highly suggest you pick up a 45T Metal spur, Ratio's are outta wack with a 48T, Not to mention having to shim up the Diff to even make it work.

i had a good weekend but full of pain, i geared mine buggy 16/45, the temps was high, still did good, i used the green ft springs 40wt oil and green in the rear 27.5wt oil. handled ok still didnt feel just right?? i just need something different??

If you were running the 1700, 16/45 sounds slightly undergeared.

Yup. I find that you want 1 pinion tooth for each 100Kv you go down on motor. Also, I have been told that for every 2 teeth on a spur you also want to go up 1 pinion tooth. This I learned from a veteran on-road guy it may apply better to finer pitched gears but he also races EP buggy now and says the ratio still works well . . .

Another thing I'm thinking is stepping up 2.5wt both f/r but don't know the temps in your area this weekend and would be more based on that (65-80).
At 60* and below I would use your oil rates and 90* and above I would step it up 5wt for f/r

Oh no! You need to subtract from the pinion if you are going up on motor. For you I would have a 12 & 13t on hand if you are running a 45T spur . . .

agreed, but i want to check times and temps so I'm going to run 12,13,14,15 and see what runs best (2250kv motor)
